At a glance

Fast headless browser for QA testing and site dogfooding. An agent skill from LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills.

  • Works in 10 steps: Verify a page loads correctly → Test a user flow → Verify an action worked → …
  • You need to test a feature
  • SKILL.md covers Preamble (run first), AskUserQuestion Format, Contributor Mode and SETUP (run this check BEFORE…, plus 3 more sections
  • Runs TypeScript scripts from its folder; calls git, curl and bash; reaches bun.sh

What it does

Browse is an agent skill from LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills. Fast headless browser for QA testing and site dogfooding. Navigate any URL, interact with elements, verify page state, diff before/after actions, take annotated screenshots, check responsive layouts, test forms and uploads, handle dialogs, and assert element states. ~100ms per command. Use when you need to test a feature, verify a deployment, dogfood a user flow, or file a bug with evidence.

Its SKILL.md is about 3.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 39 other files (for example `src/browser-manager.ts`, `src/buffers.ts` and `src/cli.ts`).

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering QA and bug reports, UX design and Responsive design. The repository describes itself as: 🧠 Curated collection of 1209+ best OpenClaw skills — weekly updated by MyClaw.ai. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • You need to test a feature
  • Verify a deployment
  • Dogfood a user flow
  • File a bug with evidence

Example prompts

  • “/browse”

Requirements

  • Node.js
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Bash, Read, AskUserQuestion

Workflow steps

10 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Verify a page loads correctly
  2. Test a user flow
  3. Verify an action worked
  4. Visual evidence for bug reports
  5. Find all clickable elements (including non-ARIA)
  6. Assert element states
  7. Test responsive layouts
  8. Test file uploads
  9. Test dialogs
  10. Compare environments

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e5199b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Bash
    • Read
    • AskUserQuestion

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Ships script files (TypeScript, from the files we listed), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • curl
    • bash

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • bun.sh

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Browse loads about 3.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 100 tokens; SKILL.md has 1,050 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~100
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~3.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NotePipes a well-known installer script into a shellSKILL.md:106
    3. If `bun` is not installed: `curl -fsSL https://bun.sh/install | bash`
  • NotePre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: Bash)SKILL.md
    allowed-tools: Bash, Read, AskUserQuestion

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Preamble (run first)

bash
_UPD=$(~/.claude/skills/gstack/bin/gstack-update-check 2>/dev/null || .claude/skills/gstack/bin/gstack-update-check 2>/dev/null || true)
[ -n "$_UPD" ] && echo "$_UPD" || true

touch ~/.gstack/sessions/"$PPID"
_SESSIONS=$(find ~/.gstack/sessions -mmin -120 -type f 2>/dev/null | wc -l | tr -d ' ')
find ~/.gstack/sessions -mmin +120 -type f -delete 2>/dev/null || true
_CONTRIB=$(~/.claude/skills/gstack/bin/gstack-config get gstack_contributor 2>/dev/null || true)
_BRANCH=$(git branch --show-current 2>/dev/null || echo "unknown")
echo "BRANCH: $_BRANCH"

If output shows UPGRADE_AVAILABLE <old> <new>: read ~/.claude/skills/gstack/gstack-upgrade/SKILL.md and follow the "Inline upgrade flow" (auto-upgrade if configured, otherwise AskUserQuestion with 4 options, write snooze state if declined). If JUST_UPGRADED <from> <to>: tell user "Running gstack v{to} (just updated!)" and continue.

AskUserQuestion Format

ALWAYS follow this structure for every AskUserQuestion call:

  1. Re-ground: State the project, the current branch (use the _BRANCH value printed by the preamble — NOT any branch from conversation history or gitStatus), and the current plan/task. (1-2 sentences)
  2. Simplify: Explain the problem in plain English a smart 16-year-old could follow. No raw function names, no internal jargon, no implementation details. Use concrete examples and analogies. Say what it DOES, not what it's called.
  3. Recommend: RECOMMENDATION: Choose [X] because [one-line reason]
  4. Options: Lettered options: A) ... B) ... C) ...

Assume the user hasn't looked at this window in 20 minutes and doesn't have the code open. If you'd need to read the source to understand your own explanation, it's too complex.

Per-skill instructions may add additional formatting rules on top of this baseline.

Contributor Mode

If _CONTRIB is true: you are in contributor mode. You're a gstack user who also helps make it better.

At the end of each major workflow step (not after every single command), reflect on the gstack tooling you used. Rate your experience 0 to 10. If it wasn't a 10, think about why. If there is an obvious, actionable bug OR an insightful, interesting thing that could have been done better by gstack code or skill markdown — file a field report. Maybe our contributor will help make us better!

Calibration — this is the bar: For example, $B js "await fetch(...)" used to fail with SyntaxError: await is only valid in async functions because gstack didn't wrap expressions in async context. Small, but the input was reasonable and gstack should have handled it — that's the kind of thing worth filing. Things less consequential than this, ignore.

NOT worth filing: user's app bugs, network errors to user's URL, auth failures on user's site, user's own JS logic bugs.

To file: write ~/.gstack/contributor-logs/{slug}.md with all sections below (do not truncate — include every section through the Date/Version footer):

# {Title}

Hey gstack team — ran into this while using /{skill-name}:

Slug: lowercase, hyphens, max 60 chars (e.g. browse-js-no-await). Skip if file already exists. Max 3 reports per session. File inline and continue — don't stop the workflow. Tell user: "Filed gstack field report: {title}"

browse: QA Testing & Dogfooding

Persistent headless Chromium. First call auto-starts (~3s), then ~100ms per command. State persists between calls (cookies, tabs, login sessions).

SETUP (run this check BEFORE any browse command)

bash
_ROOT=$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel 2>/dev/null)

[ -n "$_ROOT" ] && [ -x "$_ROOT/.claude/skills/gstack/browse/dist/browse" ] && B="$_ROOT/.claude/skills/gstack/browse/dist/browse"
[ -z "$B" ] && B=~/.claude/skills/gstack/browse/dist/browse
if [ -x "$B" ]; then
  echo "READY: $B"
else
  echo "NEEDS_SETUP"

If NEEDS_SETUP:

  1. Tell the user: "gstack browse needs a one-time build (~10 seconds). OK to proceed?" Then STOP and wait.
  2. Run: cd <SKILL_DIR> && ./setup
  3. If bun is not installed: curl -fsSL https://bun.sh/install | bash

Core QA Patterns

1. Verify a page loads correctly
bash
$B goto https://yourapp.com
$B text                          # content loads?
$B console                       # JS errors?
$B network                       # failed requests?
$B is visible ".main-content" # key elements present?
2. Test a user flow
bash
$B goto https://app.com/login
$B snapshot -i # see all interactive elements
$B fill @e3 "user@test.com"
$B fill @e4 "password"
$B click @e5                     # submit
$B snapshot -D # diff: what changed after submit?
$B is visible ".dashboard" # success state present?
3. Verify an action worked
bash
$B snapshot                      # baseline
$B click @e3                     # do something
$B snapshot -D # unified diff shows exactly what changed
4. Visual evidence for bug reports
bash
$B snapshot -i -a -o /tmp/annotated.png   # labeled screenshot
$B screenshot /tmp/bug.png                # plain screenshot
$B console                                # error log
5. Find all clickable elements (including non-ARIA)
bash
$B snapshot -C # finds divs with cursor:pointer, onclick, tabindex
$B click @c1                     # interact with them
6. Assert element states
bash
$B is visible ".modal"
$B is enabled "#submit-btn"
$B is disabled "#submit-btn"
$B is checked "#agree-checkbox"
$B is editable "#name-field"
$B is focused "#search-input"
$B js "document.body.textContent.includes('Success')"
7. Test responsive layouts
bash
$B responsive /tmp/layout        # mobile + tablet + desktop screenshots
$B viewport 375x812 # or set specific viewport
$B screenshot /tmp/mobile.png
8. Test file uploads
bash
$B upload "#file-input" /path/to/file.pdf
$B is visible ".upload-success"
9. Test dialogs
bash
$B dialog-accept "yes"           # set up handler
$B click "#delete-button"        # trigger dialog
$B dialog # see what appeared
$B snapshot -D                   # verify deletion happened
10. Compare environments
bash
$B diff https://staging.app.com https://prod.app.com

Snapshot Flags

The snapshot is your primary tool for understanding and interacting with pages.

-i --interactive Interactive elements only (buttons, links, inputs) with @e refs
-c --compact Compact (no empty structural nodes)
-d <N> --depth Limit tree depth (0 = root only, default: unlimited)
-s <sel> --selector Scope to CSS selector
-D --diff Unified diff against previous snapshot (first call stores baseline)
-a --annotate Annotated screenshot with red overlay boxes and ref labels
-o <path> --output Output path for annotated screenshot (default: /tmp/browse-annotated.png)
-C        --cursor-interactive    Cursor-interactive elements (@c refs — divs with pointer, onclick)

All flags can be combined freely. -o only applies when -a is also used. Example: $B snapshot -i -a -C -o /tmp/annotated.png

Ref numbering: @e refs are assigned sequentially (@e1, @e2, ...) in tree order. @c refs from -C are numbered separately (@c1, @c2, ...).

After snapshot, use @refs as selectors in any command:

bash
$B click @e3       $B fill @e4 "value"     $B hover @e1
$B html @e2        $B css @e5 "color"      $B attrs @e6
$B click @c1       # cursor-interactive ref (from -C)

Output format: indented accessibility tree with @ref IDs, one element per line.

  @e1 [heading] "Welcome" [level=1]
  @e2 [textbox] "Email"
  @e3 [button] "Submit"

Refs are invalidated on navigation — run snapshot again after goto.

Questions about Browse

What does Browse do?

Fast headless browser for QA testing and site dogfooding. An agent skill from LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills. Browse is an agent skill from LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills. Fast headless browser for QA testing and site dogfooding.

When should I use Browse?

Browse fits situations like: you need to test a feature; verify a deployment; dogfood a user flow; file a bug with evidence.

How do I install Browse in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills --skill browse -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/gstack/browse in LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills) into .claude/skills/browse in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Browse in Codex?

Run `npx skills add LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills --skill browse -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/gstack/browse in LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills) into .agents/skills/browse in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Browse in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills --skill browse -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/browse, .gemini/skills/browse, .github/skills/browse and .opencode/skills/browse in your project.

What does Browse need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Browse needs TypeScript for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (git, curl and bash). Our summary lists: Node.js. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash, Read, AskUserQuestion.

Does Browse access the network?

SKILL.md names 1 domain. In commands or code: bun.sh; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Browse safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pipes a well-known installer script into a shell; pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Browse use?

Browse is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Browse use?

About 3.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 13k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Browse?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Browse: Browse (mr-daedalium/ostack-saas, 114 stars), Pstack (no-session/pstack, 136 stars), Ostack (mr-daedalium/ostack-saas, 114 stars) and Local Testing (lobehub/lobe-ui, 2.2k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Browse?

LeoYeAI (a GitHub user) maintains it in LeoYeAI/openclaw-master-skills, which has 2,161 GitHub stars. The repository holds 1,235 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on July 20, 2026.
