breadboardingTransform a workflow description into affordance tables showing UI and Code affordances with their wiring.
Breadboarding is an agent skill from koolamusic/claudefiles. Transform a workflow description into affordance tables showing UI and Code affordances with their wiring. Use to map existing systems or design new ones from shaped parts.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.3k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 11 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `references/catalog.md`, `references/concepts.md` and `references/examples.md`).
The repository describes itself as: A minimal catalog of my favourite skills for working with claude. The licence is MIT.
3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 297c432. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Shell), which the agent can run.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Breadboarding loads about 1.3k tokens when it runs, and up to ~16k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 47 tokens; SKILL.md has 553 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from koolamusic/claudefiles at commit 297c432, republished under its MIT licence (© koolamusic). 553 words, ~1,268 tokens.
.claude/skills/breadboarding/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 9 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Breadboarding transforms a workflow description into a complete map of affordances and their relationships. The output is always a set of tables showing numbered UI and Code affordances with their Wires Out and Returns To relationships. The tables are the truth. Mermaid diagrams are optional visualizations for humans.
You have a workflow you're trying to understand. Provide code repo(s) and a workflow description (always from the perspective of an operator trying to make an effect happen). Output: affordance tables + optional Mermaid.
You have a new system sketched as an assembly of parts (mechanisms), which is what a shaping pass produces — /grill shape is one way to get there. Provide the parts list, the R (requirement/outcome), and optionally the existing system. Output: affordance tables + optional Mermaid.
An existing system that must remain as-is, plus new pieces or changes. Breadboard both together — existing affordances and new ones — showing how they connect.
Places — A bounded context of interaction. The blocking test: can you interact with what's behind? No → different Place. Yes → same Place with local state changes. Places get IDs (P1, P2...) and can contain subplaces (P2.1, P2.2).
Affordances — Things you can act upon. UI affordances (U): inputs, buttons, displays. Code affordances (N): methods, subscriptions, stores, framework mechanisms.
Wiring — How affordances connect. Wires Out = control flow (what triggers what). Returns To = data flow (where output goes). Navigation wires go to Places, not to affordances inside them.
Every breadboard produces these tables:
| # | Place | Description |
|---|---|---|
| P1 | Search Page | Main search interface |
| P2 | Detail Page | Individual result view |
| # | Place | Component | Affordance | Control | Wires Out | Returns To |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| U1 | P1 | search-detail | search input | type | → N1 | — |
| U2 | P1 | search-detail | loading spinner | render | — | — |
| # | Place | Component | Affordance | Control | Wires Out | Returns To |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N1 | P1 | search-detail | activeQuery.next() | call | → N2 | — |
| N2 | P1 | search-detail | activeQuery subscription | observe | → N3 | — |
| # | Place | Store | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| S1 | P1 | results | Array of search results |
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| # | Unique ID (P1, P2... for Places; U1, U2... for UI; N1, N2... for Code; S1, S2... for Stores) |
| Place | Which Place this affordance belongs to (containment) |
| Component | Which component/service owns this |
| Affordance | The specific thing you can act upon |
| Control | The triggering event: click, type, call, observe, write, render |
| Wires Out | What this triggers: → N4, → P2 (control flow, including navigation) |
| Returns To | Where output flows: → N3 or → U2, U3 (data flow) |
Load these progressively as needed:
| File | Contains | Load When |
|---|---|---|
| concepts.md | Places, subplaces, place references, modes, containment vs wiring, navigation wiring | You need to determine Place boundaries or model containment |
| procedures.md | Step-by-step for mapping existing systems (11 steps) and designing from parts (8 steps) | Starting a breadboarding task |
| principles.md | Never use memory, mechanisms aren't affordances, two flows, data source rules, store placement | Reviewing or debugging a breadboard |
| catalog.md | Complete element/relationship reference, qualification criteria, verification checks | Quick lookup of what qualifies as what |
| visualization.md | Mermaid conventions, colors, lines, subgraphs, chunking, workflow annotations | Creating or reviewing Mermaid diagrams |
| slicing.md | Vertical slicing methodology, constraints, procedure, visualization | Breaking a breadboard into implementation slices |
| reflection.md | Design smell detection, naming test, splitting affordances, fixing wiring | Reviewing a breadboard for correctness |
| examples.md | Example A: mapping existing system, Example B: designing from parts + slicing | Need a worked example for reference |

Transform a workflow description into affordance tables showing UI and Code affordances with their wiring. Breadboarding is an agent skill from koolamusic/claudefiles. Transform a workflow description into affordance tables showing UI and Code affordances with their wiring.
Breadboarding fits situations like: map existing systems; design new ones from shaped parts.
Run `npx skills add koolamusic/claudefiles --skill breadboarding -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/breadboarding in koolamusic/claudefiles) into .claude/skills/breadboarding in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add koolamusic/claudefiles --skill breadboarding -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/breadboarding in koolamusic/claudefiles) into .agents/skills/breadboarding in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add koolamusic/claudefiles --skill breadboarding -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/breadboarding, .gemini/skills/breadboarding, .github/skills/breadboarding and .opencode/skills/breadboarding in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Breadboarding needs a shell for the scripts in its folder. Our summary lists: A Bash shell.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Breadboarding is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 15k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Breadboarding: Transformers (K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills, 48k stars), Duplicate Description (thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist, 74k stars), Table Fit (asgeirtj/system_prompts_leaks, 69k stars) and Meta Description (thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist, 74k stars).
