vibe-debugA short debugging procedure for an existing project: reproduce the failure, test one hypothesis at a time, make the smallest fix, add a regression check and re-verify.
The skill covers diagnosing and fixing a reproducible failure in an existing project, such as a crash, broken behavior or failing check, and is not meant for greenfield planning. It starts by inspecting the request, repository rules, current diff and recorded launch and check commands, preserving the user's work and recording a baseline and recovery checkpoint without resetting, cleaning or replacing unrelated files.
Next the agent reproduces the smallest failing journey or test, recording input, expected result, actual result and environment, and labels the issue unconfirmed if reproduction is blocked. It forms one specific explanation, runs a targeted experiment, changes the smallest relevant area and adds a meaningful regression check. After two failed attempts at the same error it stops speculative edits and researches 3–5 plausible fixes from authoritative sources. It re-runs the original reproduction and hands off to the vibe-verify skill, keeping a hypothesis log in MEMORY.md and finishing with a Changed, Checked, Not checked, Next decision and Recovery summary.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d26fb0d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadWriteEditGlobGrepBashAskUserQuestionFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Vibe Debug loads about 403 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 38 tokens; SKILL.md has 188 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
allowed-tools: Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep, Bash, AskUserQuestionAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Vibe Debug fits situations like: A project crashes or a feature behaves incorrectly and can be reproduced; A test or CI check fails and the cause is unknown; being stuck after two failed fix attempts on the same error.
Run `npx skills add KhazP/vibe-coding-prompt-template --skill vibe-debug -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/vibe-debug in KhazP/vibe-coding-prompt-template) into .claude/skills/vibe-debug in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add KhazP/vibe-coding-prompt-template --skill vibe-debug -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/vibe-debug in KhazP/vibe-coding-prompt-template) into .agents/skills/vibe-debug in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add KhazP/vibe-coding-prompt-template --skill vibe-debug -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/vibe-debug, .gemini/skills/vibe-debug, .github/skills/vibe-debug and .opencode/skills/vibe-debug in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Vibe Debug is instructions for the agent only. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep, Bash, AskUserQuestion.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Vibe Debug is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 403 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
