Caveman Stats is an agent skill from JuliusBrussee/caveman. Show recorded output and cache-read token usage and mode attribution for the current Claude Code session, or locate the host's native usage report. Trigger: /caveman-stats.
Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `README.md`).
The repository describes itself as: 🪨 why use many token when few token do trick. Viral skill + proxy for coding agents that cuts 65% of tokens by talking like a caveman. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2e08b91. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Caveman Stats loads about 491 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 47 tokens; SKILL.md has 250 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from JuliusBrussee/caveman at commit 2e08b91, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© JuliusBrussee). 250 words, ~491 tokens.
.claude/skills/caveman-stats/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 1 other file; get the full folder from GitHub.In Claude Code, src/hooks/caveman-mode-tracker.js resolves src/hooks/caveman-stats.js next to itself and runs it on /caveman-stats. The hook does not block the prompt: it supplies the report through hookSpecificOutput.additionalContext with an instruction to print it verbatim inside a fenced code block. Do exactly that, and do not calculate, recompute or re-round the numbers yourself.
In Gemini CLI, direct the user to /stats model for current session token usage or /stats session for session statistics. Gemini custom commands are prompts; they cannot invoke the built-in command or read its live session metrics. Never read Claude Code transcripts as Gemini usage. In other hosts, use a native usage report if one is available; otherwise say that current session usage is unavailable. The Claude reader and its lifetime history apply only to Claude Code. Savings remain unknown in every host without a measured comparison.
The report shows recorded output and cache-read tokens, response counts, and mode attribution where available. Savings are unknown: the transcript has no measured comparison without Caveman. Do not infer saved tokens, percentages, dollars, rule overhead, or a net result from output counts or the current mode.
--all and --since 7d aggregate the latest recorded output count per session. --share reports observed usage with savings unknown. Historical est_saved_* fields are ignored; their original history rows remain on disk. The statusline shows the active mode without the retired savings badge.
Original/current memory-file pairs are reported by their measured byte sizes. Those file-size differences do not establish provider token or billing savings. See docs/HONEST-NUMBERS.md.

JuliusBrussee/caveman
Finds every LLM workflow in a repository, proposes a labeling table and, once you agree, wires labels so Caveman Cloud groups spend per workflow.
JuliusBrussee/caveman
Read-only review of Caveman Cloud data to explain where LLM spend goes: cost, score, workflows, traces, latency, errors, routing and verified savings.
JuliusBrussee/caveman
Reads the state and results of Caveman Cloud experiments and reports one recommendation or a block, without changing an experiment's lifecycle itself.
JuliusBrussee/caveman
Turns a Caveman report-only optimization observation into one minimal code change and a paired baseline evaluation, after the operator picks which to pursue.
JuliusBrussee/caveman
Routes every LLM call in a repository through the Caveman Cloud gateway in record mode, so requests and costs are measured without changing behavior.

Run `npx skills add JuliusBrussee/caveman --skill caveman-stats -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/caveman-stats in JuliusBrussee/caveman) into .claude/skills/caveman-stats in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add JuliusBrussee/caveman --skill caveman-stats -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Caveman Stats is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Caveman Stats is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 491 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
