What it does

Relax is an agent skill from jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills. Prepare GPAW geometry-relaxation task inputs/scripts from a user-provided structure and essential optimization settings. Use when the user needs structure optimization with explicit optimizer and force-convergence policies.

Its SKILL.md is about 380 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Requires a user-provided structure and runnable GPAW+ASE Python environment.

The repository describes itself as: Agent skills to run computational-chemistry tasks, used in OpenClaw. The licence is LGPL-3.0-or-later.

When your agent uses it

  • The user needs structure optimization with explicit optimizer and force-convergence policies

Example prompts

  • “/relax”

Requirements

  • Python 3
  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires a user-provided structure and runnable GPAW+ASE Python environment.

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. relaxation-task script/input layout
  2. explicit relaxation-policy rationale
  3. settings summary and assumptions
  4. unresolved choices for user confirmation
  5. handoff note to dpdisp-submit if execution is requested

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 5c19e75. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Requires a user-provided structure and runnable GPAW+ASE Python environment.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Relax loads about 377 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 57 tokens; SKILL.md has 120 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~57
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~377

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

GPAW Relaxation (Subskill)

Scope

This skill prepares relaxation tasks only.

It should generate:

  • structure input
  • GPAW+ASE optimization script
  • explicit force/step convergence controls

It should not submit or execute jobs.

Relax intent is mandatory

Before producing the script, classify intent:

  • ion-only relaxation
  • cell+ion relaxation (with chosen ASE filter/policy)
  • low-dimensional/slab-oriented constraints

If intent is ambiguous, ask for clarification.

Must provide

  • structure input
  • XC and calculator mode settings
  • optimizer choice (for example BFGS/FIRE)
  • force threshold (fmax)
  • step/trajectory/log policy

Usually should be explicit

  • stress/cell relaxation policy
  • constraints for fixed atoms/layers
  • k-point and smearing settings

Expected output

  1. relaxation-task script/input layout
  2. explicit relaxation-policy rationale
  3. settings summary and assumptions
  4. unresolved choices for user confirmation
  5. handoff note to dpdisp-submit if execution is requested

Questions about Relax

What does Relax do?

Prepare GPAW geometry-relaxation task inputs/scripts from a user-provided structure and essential optimization settings. Relax is an agent skill from jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills. Prepare GPAW geometry-relaxation task inputs/scripts from a user-provided structure and essential optimization settings.

When should I use Relax?

Relax fits situations like: the user needs structure optimization with explicit optimizer and force-convergence policies.

How do I install Relax in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills --skill relax -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (quantum-chemistry/dft-gpaw/relax in jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills) into .claude/skills/relax in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Relax in Codex?

Run `npx skills add jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills --skill relax -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (quantum-chemistry/dft-gpaw/relax in jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills) into .agents/skills/relax in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Relax in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills --skill relax -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/relax, .gemini/skills/relax, .github/skills/relax and .opencode/skills/relax in your project.

What does Relax need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Relax is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Python 3. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires a user-provided structure and runnable GPAW+ASE Python environment..

Does Relax access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Relax safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Relax use?

Relax is published under the LGPL-3.0-or-later licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Relax use?

About 377 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Relax?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Relax: Audit Preparation (sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills, 47k stars), Od Next Media Inputs (nexu-io/open-design, 100k stars), Search Input (thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist, 74k stars) and Input Types (thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist, 74k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Relax?

jinzhezenggroup (a GitHub organization) maintains it in jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills, which has 148 GitHub stars. The repository holds 62 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on October 9, 2026.
