serpapi-security-basicsThreat-model SerpAPI credentials, query data, result retention, browser exposure, logs, and ZeroTrace tradeoffs.
Serpapi Security Basics is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Threat-model SerpAPI credentials, query data, result retention, browser exposure, logs, and ZeroTrace tradeoffs. Use when reviewing or hardening a search integration. Trigger with "secure a SerpAPI integration".
Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; key rotation, ZeroTrace enablement, retention changes, and production proxy changes require security and account-owner approval
It sits in Security, covering Threat modeling. It works with SerpApi. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.
7 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 80f86df. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadGlobGrepWebFetchWriteEditFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
SERPAPI_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Designed for Claude Code; key rotation, ZeroTrace enablement, retention changes, and production proxy changes require security and account-owner approval
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Serpapi Security Basics loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 59 tokens; SKILL.md has 461 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace at commit 80f86df, republished under its MIT licence (© jeremylongshore). 461 words, ~1,125 tokens.
.claude/skills/serpapi-security-basics/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Protect the private key and treat queries, parameters, raw results, archive records, fixtures, and telemetry as potentially sensitive data.
Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect secret flow, browser bundles, logs, caches, and fixtures, WebFetch to verify current security and retention claims, and Write or Edit for server-side boundaries, redaction, tests, and evidence.
SerpAPI requires a private API key and recommends server-side use for web applications. Standard search data is documented as expiring after 31 days. Enterprise ZeroTrace mode uses zero_trace=true to skip storing search parameters, files, and metadata, which also removes archive-based debugging; eligibility and exact guarantees must be rechecked against the account contract.
Keep SERPAPI_KEY in an approved server-side secret manager. Never ship it in browser or mobile bundles, accept it from end users, include it in URLs that are logged, or return Account API data to unauthenticated clients.
Do not rotate a key, enable account features, change production retention, expose a proxy, or process a new sensitive data class without named owner approval.
Return the threat model, secret-flow proof, data classification, proxy controls, retention/ZeroTrace decision, negative-test results, approval record, and incident/rotation owners.
| Condition | Response |
|---|---|
| Key appears in history or telemetry | Revoke or rotate under incident procedure and purge authorized copies. |
| Browser bundle references the key | Block release and move the call behind an authenticated backend. |
| Sensitive search used standard retention | Notify privacy/security owners and follow the approved deletion process. |
| ZeroTrace search needs archive debugging | Use local redacted evidence; do not assume an archive record exists. |
key=server-secret-only; callers=authenticated; inputs=allowlisted; output=minimized; standard-retention=31-days; zero-trace=contract-reviewed; leakage-tests=passSchedule a key-leak and public-endpoint abuse drill, then review the controls after any data-class change.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Serpapi Security Basics needs credentials named SERPAPI_KEY. Our summary lists: A credential in SERPAPI_KEY. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Glob, Grep, WebFetch, Write, Edit. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; key rotation, ZeroTrace enablement, retention changes, and production proxy changes require security and account-owner approval.
SKILL.md names 1 domain. As links in the text: serpapi.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
