What it does

Notion Install Auth is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Establish a least-privilege Notion connection and tested API contract without leaking credentials. Use when onboarding an internal connection, public OAuth connection, or personal access token. Trigger with "set up Notion auth", "create Notion connection", or "review Notion credentials".

Its SKILL.md is about 990 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval

It sits in Backend & APIs, covering API design and OAuth and OpenID Connect. It works with Notion. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Onboarding an internal connection
  • Public OAuth connection
  • Personal access token
  • With set up Notion auth

Example prompts

  • “set up Notion auth”
  • “create Notion connection”
  • “review Notion credentials”
  • “/notion-install-auth”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Choose the connection type from distribution, tenant, and user-context requirements.
  2. Define the minimum content, comment, and user capabilities plus exact shared fixture roots.
  3. Select and test an SDK and API-version combination against current upgrade guidance.
  4. Provision the credential through the approved secret manager and record a fingerprint.
  5. Run bot identity plus one explicitly shared read-only fixture check.
  6. Document rotation, OAuth refresh if applicable, revocation, reauthorization, and production promotion.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Notion Install Auth loads about 993 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.5k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 77 tokens; SKILL.md has 413 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~77
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~993
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Notion Connection and Authentication Intake

Overview

Establish a least-privilege Notion connection and tested API contract without leaking credentials.. This workflow produces an auditable decision or artifact before any live action.

Prerequisites

  • Current first-party Notion documentation and the selected integration's tested API-version contract.
  • A named workspace owner, content or data owner, and operation owner.
  • Synthetic or approved non-production fixtures with secrets and workspace content removed.

Current Contract

Notion supports internal connections, public OAuth connections, and personal access tokens with different ownership and access behavior. REST calls require bearer authentication and an explicit tested Notion-Version contract. Recheck the dated evidence map before relying on mutable fields, endpoints, versions, limits, or delivery behavior.

Authentication

Record credential issuer, connection or user owner, workspace binding, capabilities, shared roots, expiry or refresh behavior, storage, rotation, and revocation without storing the secret value.

Instructions

Tool Discipline

Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect documentation, configuration, code, fixtures, and evidence. Use Write and Edit only for approved repository artifacts. Invocation alone does not authorize network access, credentials, workspace content, user data, file transfer, deployment, capability or sharing changes, writes, spend, or deletion.

Approval Boundaries

Require the workspace owner for connection creation and sharing; require security review for public OAuth, user information, external distribution, or production secrets.

Error Handling

  • Never infer OAuth scopes or redirect behavior from an internal token example.
  • A connection capability does not grant access until content is shared where required.
  • Do not commit env files or access tokens.

Output

Return the connection model, workspace binding, capability matrix, shared roots, secret reference, validation evidence, lifecycle owners, and gaps. Identify assumptions, owners, expirations, and evidence gaps explicitly.

Examples

  • Onboard a read-only internal connection to a synthetic data source.
  • Document a public OAuth installation without persisting tokens in browser state.

Validation

Exercise and record these paths with expected and observed results:

  • least privilege
  • workspace binding
  • shared content
  • secret storage
  • revocation
  • negative access

Resources

  • Current first-party evidence map — recheck dated sources before relying on mutable behavior.
  • Treat observed tenant behavior as environment-specific evidence, never a universal Notion guarantee.
