What it does

Coderabbit Reference Architecture is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Design a governed deployment across provider, configuration, review, knowledge, tools, data, identity, and observability. Use when this operator task needs a current, evidence-backed CodeRabbit workflow. Trigger with "design CodeRabbit architecture".

Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Requires current CodeRabbit documentation and approved access for any live organization, repository, billing, or API change

It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering Observability. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • This operator task needs a current
  • Evidence-backed CodeRabbit workflow
  • With design CodeRabbit architecture

Example prompts

  • “design CodeRabbit architecture”
  • “/coderabbit-reference-architecture”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires current CodeRabbit documentation and approved access for any live organization, repository, billing, or API change
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Map organizations, providers, repos, trust zones, data, identities, plans, and gates.
  2. Draw configuration resolution and review-event flows with ownership.
  3. Select knowledge, tools, cache, retention, reporting, and continuity controls.
  4. Validate happy, exclusion, provider-failure, secret, and rollback paths.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 23ea8d4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Requires current CodeRabbit documentation and approved access for any live organization, repository, billing, or API change

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Coderabbit Reference Architecture loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.4k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 71 tokens; SKILL.md has 467 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~71
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.1k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

CodeRabbit Reference Architecture

Overview

Make authority and data flow explicit. Separate source, control planes, provider events, knowledge sources, and reporting.

Prerequisites

  • Identify the CodeRabbit organization, Git provider, repository, plan, and accountable owner.
  • Read references/official-docs.md and re-check any time-sensitive contract before execution.
  • Use synthetic or read-only evidence until the approval boundary is satisfied.
  • Preserve the repository's independent CI, security, and human-review requirements.

Current Contract

  • Repository YAML, central config, settings, and global overrides form precedence.
  • CodeRabbit can use guidelines, learnings, linked repos, MCP, and tools.
  • Provider support and auth differ.
  • Dashboards, exports, reports, and APIs are distinct.

Authentication

Treat Git-provider sessions, CodeRabbit web sessions, CLI credentials, and CodeRabbit API keys as separate credentials. Use only an already-approved session or secret-manager reference, never print a secret, and do not place credentials in .coderabbit.yaml, source files, logs, or deliverables.

Instructions

  1. Map organizations, providers, repos, trust zones, data, identities, plans, and gates.

  2. Draw configuration resolution and review-event flows with ownership.

  3. Select knowledge, tools, cache, retention, reporting, and continuity controls.

  4. Validate happy, exclusion, provider-failure, secret, and rollback paths.

Tool Discipline

  • Use Glob to locate candidate configuration and evidence files without widening scope.
  • Use Grep to find relevant fields, commands, identifiers, and stale claims.
  • Use Read to inspect the smallest required files and authoritative evidence.
  • Use Write only for a new approved local draft or evidence artifact.
  • Use Edit only for a bounded approved change whose rollback is known.
  • Do not use these file tools as a substitute for authenticated CodeRabbit or provider operations.

Approval Boundaries

Require architecture, security, privacy, repository, and platform owners before scope expansion. Keep analysis and drafts local until approval is explicit, and record who approved the action and its scope.

Output

A boundary diagram, authority matrix, data flows, controls, failure modes, and phased plan. Include source dates, unknowns, and the exact boundary between observed fact and recommendation.

Error Handling

ConditionResponse
Current contract is unclear or docs disagreeStop mutation, cite both sources, and request owner resolution.
Required access or approval is missingProduce a draft and evidence plan only.
Validation or pilot behavior differs from expectationRestore the prior state and retain the failed evidence.
Output contains secrets or private codeStop, quarantine the artifact, redact it, and notify the data owner.

Examples

Example 1

Design central defaults with local exceptions and global security overrides.

Example 2

Add MCP context only after data scope and auth approval.

Validation

  • Confirm every claim against the dated sources in references/official-docs.md.
  • Verify the requested scope, owner, approval, happy path, failure path, and rollback.
  • Re-read the effective configuration or provider state after any approved change.
  • Report unsupported fields, undocumented endpoints, and unverified assumptions as failures.
