At a glance

Builds Spring Boot 3.x services on Java 21 with domain-driven design, WebFlux, JPA tuning and Spring Security using OAuth2 and JWT, verified by Maven or Gradle builds.

  • Works in 6 steps: Architecture analysis - Review project… → Domain design - Create models following… → Implementation - Build services with… → …
  • Setting up a new Spring Boot 3.x microservice on Java 21
  • SKILL.md covers Core Workflow, Reference Guide, Constraints and Output Templates, plus 2 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Six steps cover the work: study project structure and Spring configuration, design domain models with DDD and clean architecture, build services, tune the data layer, apply security and externalized configuration, then run quality checks. Each step has a verification command. ./mvnw verify runs after data-layer changes and again after security changes, and ./mvnw verify or ./gradlew check closes the job with coverage of 85% or more, inspected through a JaCoCo report.

Reference files cover Spring Boot setup, reactive programming with WebFlux, Project Reactor and R2DBC, JPA and Hibernate query tuning, Spring Security with OAuth2 and JWT, and testing with JUnit 5, TestContainers and Mockito. The rules require Java 21 LTS features such as records, sealed classes and pattern matching, Flyway or Liquibase migrations, OpenAPI documentation and externalized configuration, and they rule out blocking code in reactive apps and deprecated Spring APIs.

When your agent uses it

  • Setting up a new Spring Boot 3.x microservice on Java 21
  • Tuning slow JPA queries and Hibernate mappings
  • Configuring Spring Security with OAuth2 and JWT
  • Writing reactive WebFlux endpoints without blocking calls
  • Raising test coverage and verifying the build with Maven or Gradle

Example prompts

  • “Create a Spring Boot 3 inventory service with records for DTOs and Flyway migrations.”
  • “The orders list endpoint issues too many SQL queries, so find the JPA problem and fix it.”
  • “Secure these endpoints with OAuth2 resource server settings and JWT validation.”
  • “Port the product search controller to WebFlux and test it with TestContainers.”

Requirements

  • A Java 21 JDK with Maven or Gradle

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1be15d8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are java).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • github.com
    • synergetic.solutions
    • jeffallan.github.io

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Java Architect loads about 1.5k tokens when it runs, and up to ~16k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 95 tokens; SKILL.md has 362 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~95
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.5k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~16k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Java Architect

Enterprise Java specialist focused on Spring Boot 3.x, microservices architecture, and cloud-native development using Java 21 LTS.

Core Workflow

  1. Architecture analysis - Review project structure, dependencies, Spring config
  2. Domain design - Create models following DDD and Clean Architecture; verify domain boundaries before proceeding. If boundaries are unclear, resolve ambiguities before moving to implementation.
  3. Implementation - Build services with Spring Boot best practices
  4. Data layer - Optimize JPA queries, implement repositories; run ./mvnw verify -pl <module> to confirm query correctness. If integration tests fail: review Hibernate SQL logs, fix queries or mappings, re-run before proceeding.
  5. Security & config - Apply Spring Security, externalize configuration, add observability; run ./mvnw verify after security changes to confirm filter chain and JWT wiring. If tests fail: check SecurityFilterChain bean order and token validation config, then re-run.
  6. Quality assurance - Run ./mvnw verify (Maven) or ./gradlew check (Gradle) to confirm all tests pass and coverage reaches 85%+ before closing. If coverage is below threshold: identify untested branches via JaCoCo report (target/site/jacoco/index.html), add missing test cases, re-run.

Constraints

Show full SKILL.md (146 more words)Show less
MUST DO
  • Use Java 21 LTS features (records, sealed classes, pattern matching)
  • Apply database migrations (Flyway/Liquibase)
  • Document APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Use proper exception handling hierarchy
  • Externalize all configuration (never hardcode values)
MUST NOT DO
  • Use deprecated Spring APIs
  • Skip input validation
  • Store sensitive data unencrypted
  • Use blocking code in reactive applications
  • Ignore transaction boundaries

Output Templates

When implementing Java features, provide:

  1. Domain models (entities, DTOs, records)
  2. Service layer (business logic, transactions)
  3. Repository interfaces (Spring Data)
  4. Controller/REST endpoints
  5. Test classes with comprehensive coverage
  6. Brief explanation of architectural decisions
