Crush Configuration
charmbracelet/crush
Explains how to configure the Crush coding agent with crushrc or crush.json, covering providers, models, LSPs, MCP servers, hooks, permissions and config precedence.
Answer structural questions about a codebase — what a symbol is, what calls it, what a change breaks, where the hotspots are — from a persistent code graph via the ix CLI, instead of grepping.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 8 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `references/commands.md`, `references/flags.md` and `references/output-formats.md`).
It sits in Agent Workflows. It works with Model Context Protocol. The repository describes itself as: Understand any codebase instantly. System intelligence for codebases, built for humans and AI. The licence is Apache-2.0.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 74499ba. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 2 files in scripts/ (PowerShell and Shell), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Ix loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~18k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 49 tokens; SKILL.md has 673 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

.claude/skills/ix/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 6 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Ix parses a repository with tree-sitter (27 languages) into a graph of symbols, calls and imports, kept in a local backend (ArangoDB via Docker) and persisted between sessions. Query it for structural answers — what a symbol is, what calls it, how a flow moves, what a change breaks, which files carry the most weight, where the smells are — instead of reading files to find out. It does not answer prose or history questions.

When the ix-memory MCP server is connected (ix mcp; register it with
ix mcp install), the same graph is five tools. Reach for them where Grep,
Glob and Read need several steps or cannot answer at all:
| Question | Tool |
|---|---|
| Where to start on an issue or task; what a file or symbol touches | ix_context target=<name or path> or ix_context issue=<issue text> |
| Who calls / is called by / imports / is imported by X, across files | ix_neighbors symbol=X relation=callers|callees|imports|imported_by |
| What a change to X reaches, before editing it | ix_impact target=X |
| Which definition a name means when several share it | ix_search term=X |
| A definition's source by name, without knowing its file | ix_read symbol=X |
Not for a literal string or a line in a file you already have open: that is
Grep and Read. ix_context and ix_impact end in next records phrased as
tool calls; an ambiguous name answers with candidates and pick=/path= to
choose one. No health check is needed first. ix mcp --tools=all serves
every command as a tool.
ix context <file-or-symbol> — one bounded call that names the
files and symbols that matter, with line ranges.ix read <symbol>, or path:120-180, is
one to three thousand tokens; the file around it is commonly thirty to sixty
thousand — and every one of those is re-sent on every later step of the turn.ix callers, ix imported-by and
ix impact answer "who uses this" and "what does a change reach" across
files. Drill further with ix search, ix callees, ix contains,
ix imports, ix depends, reusing the exact entity IDs from earlier output.ix status. A command that needs the backend says so itself,
with a hint; a health check in front of every call is a wasted round trip.llm is the one to read, and IX_FORMAT=llm (or
ix config set format llm) makes it the default so it need not be typed per
call; json is for chaining or extracting a field. On ix context the same
answer runs about 7.6 : 0.8 : 1 for json : llm : text.ix commands, not from training data.ix map --silent only when results are
visibly stale, such as after a branch switch or a pull.llm|json|text rules, what does not

Ix fits situations like: agent Workflows work in your project.
Run `npx skills add ix-infrastructure/Ix --skill ix -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/ix in ix-infrastructure/Ix) into .claude/skills/ix in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add ix-infrastructure/Ix --skill ix -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/ix in ix-infrastructure/Ix) into .agents/skills/ix in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add ix-infrastructure/Ix --skill ix -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/ix, .gemini/skills/ix, .github/skills/ix and .opencode/skills/ix in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Ix needs PowerShell and a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (bash). Our summary lists: A Bash shell; PowerShell; Docker.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Ix is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 17k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
