schema-authorAdds, renames, reviews and explains Brain schema tokens, aliases, prefixes and link types in Open Second Brain vaults, previewing each change before applying it.
Use it when a task changes the active schema pack in `Brain/_brain.yaml` or checks content against it. The workflow inspects the active pack with `schema_inspect` or `o2b brain schema --json`, looks at usage through the stats, lint and orphans views, and explains candidate tokens before renaming or deleting any. Changes are previewed with a dry run that returns the resulting pack and diff and writes nothing, then applied only through `schema_apply_mutations` so writes are locked, atomic and audited.
A clean preview means the mutations are valid, not that the apply will succeed, because two write-time checks only run on apply. Afterwards the agent reruns lint and stats and reports changed tokens and remaining findings. Supported operations are adding, removing and updating types, aliases, prefixes and link types, plus setting extractability and expert routing. Tokens must be lowercase normalized tokens, preferably small and durable.

Brain Schema Author loads about 513 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 45 tokens; SKILL.md has 254 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/schema-author/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Use this skill when a task changes the active Brain schema pack in Brain/_brain.yaml or reviews content against that schema.
schema_inspect (view="active_pack") or o2b brain schema --json.schema_inspect views stats, lint, and orphans.schema_inspect (view="explain_type") before renaming or deleting them.schema_apply_mutations (dry_run=true) or o2b brain schema apply --dry-run --mutation ...: it returns the pack that would result and its diff and writes nothing at all - no config write, no audit record, no lock file. It runs the same pack validator the apply runs, so a batch that validator rejects raises identically in both. It does not run the two checks that exist only because the apply writes: the vault-identity write guard, and the atomic writer's re-parse of the rendered YAML. A batch that renders to unparseable YAML previews clean and fails on apply, so treat a clean preview as "the mutations are valid", not as "the apply will succeed".schema_apply_mutations or o2b brain schema apply --mutation ... so writes are locked, atomic, and audited.Supported operations are add_type, remove_type, update_type, add_alias, remove_alias, add_prefix, remove_prefix, add_link_type, remove_link_type, set_extractable, and set_expert_routing.
Schema tokens must be lowercase normalized tokens accepted by Open Second Brain schema validation. Prefer small, durable tokens over project-specific phrasing unless the schema pack is explicitly project-scoped.

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Brain Schema Author is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: An Open Second Brain vault with a Brain/_brain.yaml schema pack.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 513 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
