What it does

Reddit CLI is an agent skill from ItamarZand88/CLI-Anything-WEB. Browses and interacts with Reddit via the cli-web-reddit command-line tool — feeds, subreddits, post search, post details with full comment trees, user profiles, and (after login) voting, commenting, submitting posts, saving, and subscriptions. Use when the user asks about Reddit, subreddits, Reddit posts or comments, or wants to act on Reddit from the terminal. Prefer this CLI over fetching the Reddit website.

Its SKILL.md is about 960 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It works with Reddit. The repository describes itself as: Claude Code plugin that generates production-grade Python CLIs for any web app. 20 CLIs and counting. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • The user asks about Reddit
  • Wants to act on Reddit from the terminal

Example prompts

  • “Use the reddit-cli skill to browse and interacts with Reddit via the cli-web-reddit command-line tool — feeds, subreddits, post search, post details…”
  • “/reddit-cli”

Requirements

  • Python 3

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 931e201. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • jq
    • pip
    • playwright

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • reddit.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Reddit CLI loads about 962 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 106 tokens; SKILL.md has 308 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~106
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~962

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

cli-web-reddit

Browse Reddit without auth; vote, comment, submit, and manage subscriptions after auth login. Install: pip install cli-web-reddit, then playwright install chromium.

Examples

bash
# Top posts this week in r/python
cli-web-reddit sub top python --time week --limit 10 --json | jq '.posts[] | {title, score, url}'

# Search posts, then read one with comments
cli-web-reddit search posts "fastapi tutorial" --limit 3 --json
cli-web-reddit post get https://www.reddit.com/r/python/comments/abc123/my_post/ --json

# Submit a flaired text post (get flair IDs first)
cli-web-reddit submit flairs ClaudeCode --json
cli-web-reddit submit text ClaudeCode "My Title" "Body here" --flair abc123 --json

# Upvote a post
cli-web-reddit vote up t3_abc123 --json

JSON output

Every command accepts --json. List reads return {"posts": [...], "after": "cursor"} (pass after back via --after to paginate); writes return {"success": true, ...}. Errors return {"error": true, "code": "...", "message": "..."}.

Auth

bash
cli-web-reddit auth login # opens a Playwright browser, extracts the token_v2 cookie
cli-web-reddit auth status --json
cli-web-reddit auth logout

When token_v2 expires (~15-30 min) the CLI refreshes it silently via a headless browser — no manual re-login. For CI, set CLI_WEB_REDDIT_AUTH_JSON with the cookies JSON. Run doctor to diagnose auth problems.

Utilities

cli-web-reddit doctor [--json] self-diagnoses the local setup (install, auth, dependencies). cli-web-reddit mcp-serve serves the commands as MCP tools over stdio.

Agent tips

  • An HTTP 403 on a specific endpoint (e.g. flair fetch on some subreddits) means "permission denied" for that resource, not expired auth.
  • Public rate limit is roughly 60 requests/minute — space out scripted reads.
