What it does

Inspect Network Traffic is an agent skill from HedvigInsurance/android. Read the HTTP and GraphQL calls a debug build of the Android app made, with request and response bodies, status codes, timings and errors, over adb. Use when debugging what the app sent to or got back from the backend, why a screen shows the wrong data or an error, whether a call happened at all, or to check a network change on a device or emulator.

Its SKILL.md is about 760 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `chucker.sh`).

It sits in Mobile, covering Mobile testing and debugging, GraphQL and Android development. It works with GraphQL and Android. The repository describes itself as: Android app for Hedvig. The licence is AGPL-3.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Debugging what the app sent to
  • Got back from the backend
  • Why a screen shows the wrong data
  • Whether a call happened at all

Example prompts

  • “/inspect-network-traffic”

Requirements

  • A Bash shell

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh mark prints the device clock.
  2. Reproduce the behaviour in the app.
  3. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh since lists what was called,
  4. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh show prints every column of one

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 457a5ba. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (Shell), which the agent can run.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Inspect Network Traffic loads about 756 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 94 tokens; SKILL.md has 369 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~94
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~756

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Inspecting network traffic

Debug and staging builds record every call made through the app's main Ktor client into Chucker's database on the device. Release gets Chucker's no-op artifact and records nothing. chucker.sh next to this file copies the database off the device and queries it with the host's sqlite3, so you never need the Chucker UI.

Needs a debug build (com.hedvig.dev.app) on the device, because run-as only works on debuggable apps. Staging records too, but is not debuggable, so read it through the Chucker UI instead. Set ANDROID_SERIAL when more than one device is attached.

Workflow

Run from the repo root:

  1. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh mark prints the device clock.
  2. Reproduce the behaviour in the app.
  3. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh since <mark> lists what was called, one row per call: id, time, GraphQL operation (or method and path), status code, duration, response size, and any problem.
  4. .claude/skills/inspect-network-traffic/chucker.sh show <id> prints every column of one call as JSON, including headers and both bodies.

Also: recent [N] for the last N calls, errors [N] for calls with an HTTP error, a transport error or a GraphQL errors array, and sql "<query>" for anything else.

Things that will trip you up

  • Cancelled calls are normal. A call whose coroutine is cancelled, for example when a screen leaves composition, shows java.io.IOException: Canceled and no status code. On a cold start a burst of these is followed by the same operations succeeding. errors leaves them out.
  • GraphQL errors come back as HTTP 200. Look at problem or the response body, not the status code.
  • The operation name comes from the request body. Every GraphQL call is a POST to the same router URL, and Chucker's own graphQlOperationName column is always empty. Use json_extract(requestBody, '$.operationName') in your own queries.
  • What is not recorded. Login and token refresh go through the auth library's own client. Coil's image downloads share the recorded client, so filter on responseContentType if they get in the way.
  • Bodies. Authorization is redacted. Bodies are stored up to Chucker's 250 KB default, and only as far as the app read them. Calls are kept for a day.

Useful transactions columns: requestDate, responseDate (epoch ms), tookMs, method, url, path, requestHeaders, requestBody, responseCode, responseHeaders, responseBody, responseContentType, error.
