run-appBuilds the Jetpack debug app with Gradle and installs it on a connected Android device or an emulator started from an available AVD.
The default target is the Jetpack debug variant, built with `./gradlew assembleJetpackDebug`; the WordPress variant is built with `assembleWordPressDebug` only when you explicitly ask for it. The agent then lists devices with `adb devices -l`: one device is used automatically, several are shown for you to pick from, and none leads to the emulator path.
With no device connected, available AVDs are listed through `emulator -list-avds` and you choose one. The device list is saved before launch so the new emulator's serial can be identified afterward, the agent waits for the device, polls `sys.boot_completed` every two seconds until boot finishes, and suggests connecting a device or creating an AVD in Android Studio when none exists. Finally it finds the built APK dynamically, excluding androidTest builds, and installs it with `adb install -r`.
6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ceafcdc. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
adbFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Run Jetpack Android App loads about 886 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 42 tokens; SKILL.md has 409 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/run-app/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Build and run the Jetpack debug variant on a connected Android device or emulator. By default this skill builds and runs the Jetpack app. Only build the WordPress app if the user explicitly asks for it.
By default, build the Jetpack debug variant:
./gradlew assembleJetpackDebugIf the user explicitly asks for the WordPress app instead, run:
./gradlew assembleWordPressDebugList all connected/running devices and emulators:
adb devices -lParse the output to identify running devices. Ignore the header line and any lines that do not contain a device serial.
AskUserQuestion and let them pick which device to use.List available (offline) AVDs:
emulator -list-avdsAVDs available: present the list to the user with
AskUserQuestion and let them pick one. Before starting the
emulator, snapshot the current device list so you can identify
the new serial afterwards:
adb devices -l # snapshot before
emulator -avd <avd_name> &
adb wait-for-deviceAfter wait-for-device returns, poll until the device has
finished booting:
adb [-s <serial>] shell getprop sys.boot_completedRepeat every 2 seconds until the output is 1. Then run
adb devices -l again and diff against the earlier snapshot to
resolve the new emulator's serial for subsequent -s flags.
No AVDs available: warn the user that no devices or emulators are available and suggest they connect a device or create an AVD through Android Studio.
Find the built APK dynamically (the exact filename may change across Gradle versions):
Jetpack (default):
APK=$(find WordPress/build/outputs/apk/jetpack/debug \
-name '*.apk' ! -name '*androidTest*' | head -1)WordPress (only if the user explicitly requested it):
APK=$(find WordPress/build/outputs/apk/wordpress/debug \
-name '*.apk' ! -name '*androidTest*' | head -1)Install the APK on the target device (use -s <serial> when multiple
devices are present):
adb [-s <serial>] install -r "$APK"Then launch the app. The debug build type appends .prealpha to the
application ID, so use the correct package name:
adb [-s <serial>] shell monkey -p com.jetpack.android.prealpha -c android.intent.category.LAUNCHER 1adb [-s <serial>] shell monkey -p org.wordpress.android.prealpha -c android.intent.category.LAUNCHER 1Tell the user whether the app was successfully installed and launched, or report any errors encountered during the process.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Run Jetpack Android App needs the command-line tools its instructions call (adb). Our summary lists: A checkout of the WordPress-Android repository with its Gradle wrapper; Android SDK tools `adb` and `emulator`; A connected device or at least one AVD.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Run Jetpack Android App is published under the GPL-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 886 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
