What it does

Using The Board is an agent skill from hashgraph-online/awesome-codex-plugins. Use when the user asks to show, track, list, chart, draw or explain something "on the board", when something is better seen than read in chat, and before saying what the board shows. The way in to the stickypane board (a terminal pane next to you): the everyday commands, and which skill to follow for a bigger job.

Its SKILL.md is about 890 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/kinds.md`).

The repository describes itself as: A curated list of awesome OpenAI Codex / ChatGPT plugins, skills, and resources. The 1 Codex Marketplace. See live plugins at: https://hol.org/plugins/best-codex-plugins. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • The user asks to show
  • Explain something on the board
  • Something is better seen than read in chat
  • Before saying what the board shows

Example prompts

  • “on the board”
  • “/using-the-board”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3e1456a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Using The Board loads about 892 tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.4k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 83 tokens; SKILL.md has 346 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~83
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~892
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~2.4k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

The way in to the stickypane board (a terminal pane next to you): the everyday commands, and which skill to follow for a bigger job.

Using the board

sh
stickypane index # every note in a line: what it is, where it stands
stickypane show README.md # any file of the project, onto the board
stickypane todo plan add "write tests" # one thing changes: one command

The board is the project's .sticky/ folder; one file is one note. Every command prints one line saying where the note stands (plan.md: 0/3): report it, do not read the file back. A missing note is made, and so is a missing board in a git repository.

Which skill

The jobFollow
a task of several steps the user followstracking-progress
a decision that is the user's: which, go or stopasking-the-user
talking back and forth on the board while you worktalking-in-chat
one note that counts, shows or answers anotherconnecting-notes

Anything else is one of the commands below.

One thing changes

sh
stickypane todo plan check tests # plan.md: 1/3 (add, uncheck)
stickypane card work move login --to Done # work.md: 4 cards (add "text" --to Doing)
stickypane chart tokens add input 1200 # tokens.md: input = 6200 (set)
stickypane log worklog --time "tests passed" # worklog.md: 12 lines
stickypane say chat "41/41 pass" --as claude # chat.md: 3 messages
stickypane set plan title="The plan" open=true size=half
stickypane show plan; stickypane hide plan # on the screen, or folded away
stickypane mv plan deploy/ # into the tab deploy (rm, restore)

An item, a card or a column is named by its text, a part of it that nothing else has, or its position (#2). When a name fits nothing or more than one thing, the error lists what there is: pick from it.

A shape of its own

Write the file into .sticky/ with open: true in its front matter.

ShapeFront matterBody
notenoneany Markdown; a mermaid block is drawn
boardtype: board## Column, then - card lines
checklisttype: checklist- [ ] and - [x] lines
logtype: log, or a .log fileone line per entry
chattype: chat@name HH:MM text under ## YYYY-MM-DD
charttype: chart, view: bar|spark|heatlabel: number lines
formtype: formthe asking-the-user skill
scripta .sh fileshell; the user runs it after a yes

Each shape in a paragraph: references/kinds.md. A full example: stickypane kinds <shape>.

Reading

stickypane index answers "what is on the board". stickypane cat <name> prints one note, stickypane answers <form> what the user chose, and stickypane watch --once --note <name> waits for the user to do something.

Rules

  • Prefer, in order: show, a one-line command, writing a file.
  • Run stickypane cat <name> before rewriting a note: the user edits from the board. The one-line commands never overwrite.
  • One note per thing the user follows; show what to read now, fold the rest.
  • What the board writes itself, and what is the user's: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/rules/touching-the-board.md. How to word a note: ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/rules/writing-notes.md.
