What it does

Developer Docs Editing Review is an agent skill from hashgraph-online/awesome-codex-plugins. Edit and review developer documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, structure, clarity, brevity, peer feedback, technical review, technical verification, QA procedure testing, and feedback integration. Use when reviewing, editing, refactoring, or preparing developer docs for release, especially docs with procedures, examples, prerequisites, or high-risk technical claims.

Its SKILL.md is about 850 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 7 other files, including reference files (for example `guidelines.md`, `references/core/knowledge.md` and `workflows/edit-developer-doc.md`). Compatibility notes: Codex, Claude Code, and other Agent Skills-compatible clients.

It sits in Development, covering Performance reviews and Refactoring. The repository describes itself as: A curated list of awesome OpenAI Codex / ChatGPT plugins, skills, and resources. The 1 Codex Marketplace. See live plugins at: https://hol.org/plugins/best-codex-plugins. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Preparing developer docs for release
  • Especially docs with procedures
  • High-risk technical claims

Example prompts

  • “/developer-docs-editing-review”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Codex, Claude Code, and other Agent Skills-compatible clients.

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Load guidelines.md to choose the smallest useful reference set.
  2. Identify doc type, audience, source of truth, and release risk.
  3. Use separate passes for technical accuracy, completeness, structure, clarity, and brevity.
  4. Use workflows/verify-technical-doc.md when procedures, migrations, security, data, or production changes need formal verification.
  5. Use workflows/edit-developer-doc.md for a full edit.
  6. Return findings first when the user asks for a review; return revised text when the user asks for an edit.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 78497e5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • link.springer.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Codex, Claude Code, and other Agent Skills-compatible clients.

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Developer Docs Editing Review loads about 853 tokens when it runs, and up to ~3k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 103 tokens; SKILL.md has 340 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~103
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~853
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~3k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Developer Docs Editing Review

Use this skill to improve developer documentation after a draft exists. It treats editing as validation and refactoring: check whether the doc is accurate, complete, structured, clear, brief, and reviewable.

This skill is derived from Docs for Developers: An Engineer's Field Guide to Technical Writing, especially Chapter 4, "Editing documentation." It is expanded with paraphrased guidance from Christopher Gales and the Splunk Documentation Team's The Product Is Docs: Writing Technical Documentation in a Product Development Group, especially Chapter 15, "Technical Editing," and Chapter 16, "Technical Verification." Do not copy book prose into user outputs. Source: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-1-4842-7217-6

Quick Start

Default Output

When reviewing documentation, return:

  1. Findings - ordered by reader risk, with file/section references when available.
  2. Missing validation - commands, examples, screenshots, API facts, or source claims not checked.
  3. Verification route - self-test, SME review, QA test, or release blocker.
  4. Recommended edits - exact changes or rewrites.
  5. Review routing - who should validate technical details.
  6. Residual risk - assumptions that remain after the edit.

When editing directly, return the revised doc plus a brief change summary and unresolved questions.

Core Posture

  • Separate writing from editing; do not polish around an unverified flaw.
  • Prioritize reader-impacting errors over style preferences.
  • Ask for specific reviews from the right technical owners.
  • Treat high-risk procedures as release-blocking until verified or explicitly accepted.
  • Integrate feedback by user need, not by reviewer rank or comment volume.
