gws-gmail-watchStreams new Gmail messages as NDJSON from the gws command line tool using Google Pub/Sub, with label filters, batch settings and optional per-message files.
The gws gmail +watch command listens for new email and prints each message as a line of NDJSON. It is part of the Google Workspace CLI, and its prerequisite is reading the shared gws skill for authentication, global flags and security rules, which can be created with gws generate-skills if it is missing.
Flags control where the stream comes from and how it behaves: a GCP project for Pub/Sub resources, an existing subscription or topic, a comma-separated list of Gmail label IDs such as INBOX and UNREAD, a maximum number of messages per pull (default 10), a pull interval in seconds (default 5), a message format of full, metadata, minimal or raw, a single-pull mode, cleanup of created resources on exit and an output directory that writes each message to its own JSON file.
A Gmail watch expires after 7 days and must be re-run to renew. Without the cleanup flag, the Pub/Sub resources persist so a later run can reconnect, and Ctrl-C stops the stream gracefully.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a3768d0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Gmail Inbox Watcher loads about 476 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 18 tokens; SKILL.md has 151 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Run `npx skills add googleworkspace/cli --skill gws-gmail-watch -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/gws-gmail-watch in googleworkspace/cli) into .claude/skills/gws-gmail-watch in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Gmail Inbox Watcher is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The gws command line tool, authenticated as described in the gws-shared skill; A GCP project with Pub/Sub, or an existing topic or subscription.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Gmail Inbox Watcher is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 476 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
