What it does

Reasons People Buy is an agent skill from gnurio/nurijanian-skills. Ground persuasive writing in a real reason people buy. Use when writing or editing copy meant to make someone buy, subscribe, or act (landing pages, ads, offers, positioning), or when auditing a draft that reads as feature-speak — "why would anyone buy this?", "make this benefit-led", "what's the hook?".

Its SKILL.md is about 680 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/sources.md`).

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering Landing pages. The repository describes itself as: Claude Code and Cursor skills for product managers — PM coaching, verbalized sampling, tech sensemaking, and more. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Editing copy meant to make someone buy
  • Act (landing pages
  • Auditing a draft that reads as feature-speak — why would anyone buy this?
  • Make this benefit-led

Example prompts

  • “why would anyone buy this?”
  • “make this benefit-led”
  • “s the hook?”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Name the reason. Match the line to a reason on the list below. A line that maps to none is feature-speak — cut it or rewrite it. Done when…
  2. Say the outcome, not the mechanism. What the buyer gets ("stop losing an hour a day to this"), not how it works ("automated workflow…
  3. Lead with the reason, prove with the feature. Reason in the headline or first line; the feature sits underneath as evidence.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 43a0566. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Reasons People Buy loads about 681 tokens when it runs, and up to ~2k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 398 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~81
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~681
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Reasons people buy

People buy to move toward a feeling or an outcome, never to own a feature. Copy that names what a product is or does leaves the reader to supply the reason themselves, and most won't. Name the reason first; let the feature prove it.

The move

For every line meant to persuade:

  1. Name the reason. Match the line to a reason on the list below. A line that maps to none is feature-speak — cut it or rewrite it. Done when every retained line traces to one named reason.
  2. Say the outcome, not the mechanism. What the buyer gets ("stop losing an hour a day to this"), not how it works ("automated workflow engine").
  3. Lead with the reason, prove with the feature. Reason in the headline or first line; the feature sits underneath as evidence.

The list

The working spine — 15 reasons people buy stuff:

  1. To avoid effort
  2. To feel happier
  3. To save time
  4. To be comfortable
  5. To escape pain or guilt
  6. To make money
  7. To save money
  8. To get recognition
  9. To be healthier
  10. To feel secure
  11. To alleviate fear
  12. To feel special
  13. To increase status
  14. To feel loved
  15. To get knowledge

Beneath every reason sits one of eight deeper drives (Josh Kaufman, The Personal MBA) — the reason wearing work clothes:

money · status · power · love · knowledge · protection · pleasure · excitement

Write from the 15; check against the 8 that you've found the real driver rather than a surface benefit.

Checks

  • One primary reason per asset. A page that argues five reasons equally makes the reader feel none. Pick the primary; demote the rest to support.
  • Match the reason to the journey stage. Effort, time, pain, guilt, and fear pull people who don't yet know they have a problem; recognition, status, love, and feeling special close people already deciding.
  • Test the phrasing against how a real buyer talks — their vocabulary, not yours. Language accuracy is what makes a line land; guessed language reads as an ad and gets skipped.
