What it does

Legacy Circuit Mockups is an agent skill from github/awesome-copilot, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Generate breadboard circuit mockups and visual diagrams using HTML5 Canvas drawing techniques. Use when asked to create circuit layouts, visualize electronic component placements, draw breadboard diagrams, mockup 6502 builds, generate retro computer schematics, or design vintage electronics projects. Supports 555 timers, W65C02S microprocessors, 28C256 EEPROMs, W65C22 VIA chips, 7400-series logic gates, LEDs, resistors, capacitors, switches, buttons, crystals, and wires.

Its SKILL.md is about 2.3k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 21 other files, including reference files (for example `references/28256-eeprom.md`, `references/555.md` and `references/6502.md`).

It sits in Mobile, covering Cross-platform mobile apps and Diagrams. The repository describes itself as: Community-contributed instructions, agents, skills, and configurations to help you make the most of GitHub Copilot. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Asked to create circuit layouts
  • Visualize electronic component placements
  • Draw breadboard diagrams
  • Mockup 6502 builds

Example prompts

  • “/legacy-circuit-mockups”

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Define breadboard dimensions and grid
  2. Place power rail connections (+5V and GND)
  3. Add LED component with anode/cathode orientation
  4. Place current-limiting resistor
  5. Draw wire connections between components
  6. Add labels and annotations

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 727ff2e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are javascript).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Legacy Circuit Mockups loads about 2.3k tokens when it runs, and up to ~37k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 125 tokens; SKILL.md has 946 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~125
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2.3k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~37k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

  • User wants to create educational electronics visuals
  • User mentions Ben Eater tutorials or retro computing projects
  • User asks to mockup 555 timer circuits or LED projects
  • User needs to visualize wire connections between components

Prerequisites

  • Understanding of component pinouts from bundled reference files
  • Knowledge of breadboard layout conventions (rows, columns, power rails)
