At a glance

A skill your agent uses whenever you write or modify Kotlin files in this project.

  • Modify Kotlin files in this project
  • SKILL.md covers CI Enforcement, ktlint Rules, detekt Rules and Running Locally
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Tasks that involve Android development

What it does

Kotlin Linting is an agent skill from GerardPaligot/Confily. Use this skill whenever you write or modify Kotlin files in this project. Covers the ktlint and detekt rules enforced in CI (./gradlew ktlintCheck detekt) and the most common mistakes to avoid: wildcard imports, long parameter lists, too many functions, complex methods, and magic numbers. Always apply these rules before committing.

Its SKILL.md is about 710 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Mobile, covering Android development and Linting and formatting. It works with Kotlin, Firebase, Google Cloud and Cloud Firestore. The repository describes itself as: Real life Kotlin Multiplatform project with an iOS application developed in Swift with SwiftUI, an Android application developed in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose and a backend in… The licence is Apache-2.0.

Example prompts

  • “/kotlin-linting”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 61ad38f. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are kotlin and bash).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Kotlin Linting loads about 708 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 87 tokens; SKILL.md has 218 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~87
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~708

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Kotlin Linting Skill

CI Enforcement

The linter job in .github/workflows/build.yaml runs:

./gradlew ktlintCheck detekt

Both tools run with maxIssues: 0 / ignoreFailures: false, so a single violation breaks the build. Fix issues before committing.

ktlint Rules

ktlint version 0.47.1 is used with experimental rules enabled. The only disabled rule is experimental:argument-list-wrapping.

Wildcard imports are forbidden

Always use fully qualified imports. Never use *:

kotlin
// ❌ forbidden
import io.ktor.http.*
import io.ktor.server.routing.*

// ✅ correct
import io.ktor.http.HttpStatusCode
import io.ktor.server.routing.Route
import io.ktor.server.routing.get
Generated and build directories are excluded

Files under /generated/ or /build/ are ignored automatically. Only **/kotlin/** sources are linted.

detekt Rules

Configuration lives in config/detekt/detekt.yml.

Key thresholds
RuleThreshold
ComplexMethod15 cyclomatic complexity
LongMethod100 lines
LongParameterList (functions)6 parameters
LongParameterList (constructors)7 parameters
TooManyFunctions12 per file / class / object
LargeClass600 lines
NestedBlockDepth4 levels
ComplexCondition4 conditions

LongParameterList is ignored for data classes and for functions/classes annotated with @Composable, @Stable, or @Immutable.

Suppression annotations

When a threshold genuinely cannot be avoided, suppress at the declaration level with a @Suppress annotation and a comment explaining why:

kotlin
@Suppress("LongParameterList") // DI constructor — all params are required
class MyRepository(...)

Prefer refactoring over suppression wherever possible.

Test sources are excluded

The rules below are not enforced in test source sets (**/test/**, **/androidTest/**, **/commonTest/**, etc.):

  • WildcardImport (via ktlint, but keep imports explicit in tests too)
  • StringLiteralDuplication
  • TooManyFunctions
  • LongParameterList
Empty blocks

All empty block rules are active. Do not leave empty catch, if, else, or function bodies without a comment or intentional content.

Running Locally

bash
# Check only
./gradlew ktlintCheck detekt

# Auto-fix ktlint issues
./gradlew ktlintFormat

# detekt cannot auto-fix — review the HTML report at build/reports/detekt/
