What it does
FFmpeg is the required baseline backend, handling local probing, rendering from a JSON spec, jump-cutting out silence, burning in subtitles and a final polish step that normalizes loudness, adds optional fade in and out, and standardizes codec, frame rate and resolution for platform compatibility. Optional backends extend it: Remotion for template-driven motion graphics, VectCutAPI for CapCut or Jianying timeline editing when that service is configured, and a video-audio-mcp wrapper that exposes the same FFmpeg operations as MCP tool calls.
A probe command checks first whether ffmpeg and ffprobe, plus node and npm for Remotion, are available, reporting what's missing rather than installing it. Jump-cut removal takes a configurable silence threshold in decibels, a minimum silence duration and a padding value so word endings aren't clipped, and the skill explicitly prefers reusing existing skills such as speech, transcribe and imagegen for voiceover, captions and background images over duplicating that work.
