What it does
A bundled Node script classifies working-tree or staged changes by file type (code, docs, tests, config), identifies which modules are affected, and checks whether documentation and tests were updated alongside the code. It raises warnings for specific thresholds: more than 50 changed lines without a matching DESIGN.md update, more than 30 lines without a test update, a new file with no README update, or an unrecorded configuration change, plus an informational note when a deleted file's references need confirming.
Before touching any module the agent is expected to read its README and DESIGN.md to understand its role and existing decisions, and after a change to update both files, recording new or changed design decisions with their reasoning in a dated changelog section. The gate runs automatically on design-level changes, completed refactors, edits over 30 lines, and before commits, producing a structured verification report of the change overview and findings.
