new-branchCreates a Git branch from an up-to-date main using a type-prefixed, kebab-case name such as feat or fix, and keeps work off main.
The /new-branch command cuts a new branch for a GitHub repository under a simple branch model: main is the default and protected branch, and work happens on prefixed branches such as feat for features and fix for bug fixes. The agent asks for or infers the change type from feat, fix, docs, ci, chore and refactor.
It then checks out main, pulls with a fast-forward-only update, and creates the branch from a type prefix, a slash and a short slug that is lowercase, hyphen-separated and free of spaces. Examples include feat/add-agentic-rerank and fix/empty-profile-crash. The branch stays scoped to one purpose and goes back to main through a pull request, and the skill states that nothing is ever committed directly to main.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit fcd41b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
gitFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
New Branch from Main loads about 273 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 20 tokens; SKILL.md has 76 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

cline/cline
Opens a GitHub pull request from your current branch with the gh CLI, after reviewing the commits and diff and gathering the details the PR needs.
jamiepine/voicebox
Ends a release cycle by moving the Unreleased changelog notes under a dated version heading, bumping version files with bumpversion and tagging the commit.
makeplane/plane
Opens a pull request for the current branch using the repo's template, a work item ID in the title and a description filled in from the actual diff.
redis/jedis
Generate a clear, concise GitHub PR title and description from the diff between two local git branches, and save it to prDescription.md in the repo root.
pascalorg/editor
Opens or refreshes a pull request on pascalorg/editor from the current branch, describing only what the branch's commits and diff actually contain.

New Branch from Main fits situations like: starting work on a new feature or bug fix; naming a branch consistently with the project convention; making sure a branch starts from the latest main; preparing changes for a pull request instead of committing to main.
Run `npx skills add EverMind-AI/EverOS --skill new-branch -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/new-branch in EverMind-AI/EverOS) into .claude/skills/new-branch in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add EverMind-AI/EverOS --skill new-branch -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/new-branch in EverMind-AI/EverOS) into .agents/skills/new-branch in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add EverMind-AI/EverOS --skill new-branch -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/new-branch, .gemini/skills/new-branch, .github/skills/new-branch and .opencode/skills/new-branch in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, New Branch from Main needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git). Our summary lists: git, with a remote main branch to pull from.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
New Branch from Main is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 273 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
