tau-cargo-crapA skill your agent uses when selfci, Nix CI, coverage, cargo-crap, CRAP-score, crapAbsolute, or crapReport checks fail in Tau, or before changing the cargo-crap gates, thresholds, or flagged complex…
Tau Cargo Crap is an agent skill from dpc/tau. Use this skill when selfci, Nix CI, coverage, cargo-crap, CRAP-score, crapAbsolute, or crapReport checks fail in Tau, or before changing the cargo-crap gates, thresholds, or flagged complex code.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.2k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development. The repository describes itself as: Tau Coding Agent - like Pi, but twice as much. The licence is MPL-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d2e1955. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
nixcargoFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Tau Cargo Crap loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 53 tokens; SKILL.md has 538 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from dpc/tau at commit d2e1955, republished under its MPL-2.0 licence (© dpc). 538 words, ~1,180 tokens.

nix build -L .#ci.testsCcov
nix build -L .#ci.crapAbsolute
nix build -L .#ci.crapReport -o result-crap-report
sed -n '1,120p' result-crap-report/cargo-crap.md.#ci.crapReport is the non-blocking inventory report. .#ci.crapAbsolute is
the blocking gate; .#ci.crap preserves the aggregate entry point used by
selfci.
nix build -L .#ci.crapDuplicates -o result-crap-duplicates
sed -n '1,100p' result-crap-duplicates/duplicates.txtSelfCI builds this source-only report even without TAU_CI_FULL=true. Its
duplicates.txt and duplicates.json contain candidate pairs, not a
duplicate-count gate. The Nix build fails if analysis fails, but a nonzero pair
count does not fail CI. Report paths are relative to the repository root.
For a local run without Nix output, use the pinned
cargo crap --workspace --duplicates --top 0 --format human with the same
shared defaults in .cargo-crap.toml; --top 0 hides meaningless CRAP scores
when no LCOV is supplied, without filtering duplicate pairs. The human
report's No functions found. refers to that suppressed CRAP table; read the
separate duplicate candidates section below it.
The inventory skips root-level Cargo test/bench/example directories and
src/**/tests/, src/**/tests.rs, and src/**/*_tests.rs files. It keeps
production files, including their ordinary helpers; #[cfg(test)] modules
are skipped by cargo-crap itself. Treat matches as leads for inspecting both
functions and their callers, not refactoring instructions: renamed enum
accessors, trait implementations, and macro-heavy bodies often share structure
without sharing behavior. To investigate one area, rerun
cargo crap -p <crate> --duplicates --top 0 with the same exclusions. Do not enable
[duplicates] globally: the Markdown debt report and GitHub gate cannot
display pairs. Do not enable TypeSafe triage; it would send function bodies
outside the project.
cargo llvm-cov run..#ci.crapAbsolute fails current entries above the severe threshold with --fail-above..#ci.crap is the aggregate/selfci compatibility output for the absolute gate..cargo-crap.toml's threshold of 400 with --min 100.--min filters which current entries cargo-crap evaluates and reports; keep it
low enough that every function capable of exceeding the absolute limit is
included.tests/**, benches/**, examples/**, **/tests/**,
**/tests.rs, and **/*_tests.rs as shared default exclusions for
production-code CRAP gates and inventories. External #[cfg(test)] modules
need path exclusions because the per-file scan cannot see parent attributes.
Pass --no-default-excludes
only for one-off investigations that need those directories. For code fixes, preserve behavior first and extract coherent semantic operations with focused tests, not arbitrary match fragments. A zero-coverage function needs cyclomatic complexity below 20 to stay under the absolute score of 400, so extraction without tests may just move the hotspot. Prefer adding regression tests for behavior you touch.

selfci checkselfci check skips the expensive LLVM coverage and cargo-crap lane by
default. Set TAU_CI_FULL=true when a maintainer needs that full local CI
lane, including its debt inventory and blocking absolute gate:
TAU_CI_FULL=true selfci check --candidate <change-id>Do not add a baseline for functions under the limit. A baseline is only appropriate as an explicitly approved, temporary whitelist of pre-existing above-limit violations, and such exceptions may only shrink.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Tau Cargo Crap needs the command-line tools its instructions call (nix and cargo).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Tau Cargo Crap is published under the MPL-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
