9routerSets up access to the 9Router AI gateway, an OpenAI-compatible REST endpoint for chat, images, speech, embeddings, web search and web fetch, and indexes its capability skills.
9Router is a local or remote AI gateway that offers one key and many providers with automatic fallback behind OpenAI-compatible REST. Setup is two environment variables, NINEROUTER_URL, which defaults to a local address on port 20128 or can be a server or tunnel URL, and NINEROUTER_KEY, taken from the dashboard and needed only when API keys are required. Requests go to the v1 paths with a bearer header, and a health endpoint confirms the gateway is up.
Models are discovered by kind: separate listing endpoints return chat models, image models, text-to-speech models and others, and the id field of each entry is the model name to use. Combos show up with the owner set to combo.
The skill is an entry point that indexes capability skills for chat and code generation, image generation, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, embeddings, web search and web fetch, each fetched from a raw GitHub URL when needed. Common errors are mapped to fixes: 401 means refresh the key, 400 on model format means check the model list, and 503 means wait for the retry-after time or add a provider account.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a99cf57. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
curlFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
NINEROUTER_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
9Router AI Gateway Setup loads about 744 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 92 tokens; SKILL.md has 110 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

9Router AI Gateway Setup fits situations like: pointing an agent at a 9Router gateway for the first time; finding which models a 9Router instance offers for images or speech; calling chat, embeddings or web search through one OpenAI-compatible endpoint; debugging 401, 400 or 503 errors from the gateway.
Run `npx skills add decolua/9router --skill 9router -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/9router in decolua/9router) into .claude/skills/9router in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add decolua/9router --skill 9router -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/9router in decolua/9router) into .agents/skills/9router in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add decolua/9router --skill 9router -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/9router, .gemini/skills/9router, .github/skills/9router and .opencode/skills/9router in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, 9Router AI Gateway Setup needs the command-line tools its instructions call (curl) and credentials named NINEROUTER_KEY. Our summary lists: A running 9Router instance with its URL in NINEROUTER_URL; NINEROUTER_KEY, when the gateway requires an API key.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use curl, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 744 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
