What it does

Document is an agent skill from dcodesdev/LetterSpace. Use this when writing or updating documentation — a README, docs/ page, CLAUDE.md, changelog entry, or doc comments — or when the user says 'document this'. Defines the house style for docs in this project: short, factual, task-first.

Its SKILL.md is about 460 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Technical documentation, Agent instruction files and Changelog and release notes. The repository describes itself as: Self-hosted open source newsletter platform for managing subscribers and sending campaigns. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Says document this
  • Tasks that involve Technical documentation
  • Tasks that involve Agent instruction files

Example prompts

  • “document this”
  • “/document”

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. One-line statement of what it covers.
  2. The shortest path to doing the thing.
  3. Flags/options/edge cases.
  4. Troubleshooting, only if there are known failure modes.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a06ec86. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Document loads about 461 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 248 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~61
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~461

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Document

How to write docs in this project. Keep them short — a doc nobody finishes is a doc nobody reads.

Where things go

  • README.md — what the project is, install, one working example. Nothing else.
  • CLAUDE.md — commands, flags, structure, conventions. Update it whenever behavior changes.
  • docs/<topic>.md — one file per topic that needs more than a paragraph.
  • Code comments — only for why, never what. Delete comments that restate the code.

How to write

  • Lead with the task: "Run X to do Y", not "This section describes...".
  • Use the imperative and the present tense. Second person for the reader, no "we".
  • Every claim must be true of the code as it is now — check before writing. No aspirational docs.
  • Show a real, runnable command or snippet instead of describing one.
  • Short sentences. Cut adjectives, hedges, and preamble ("simply", "just", "powerful", "seamless").
  • Prefer a list over a paragraph, and a table over a list when there are three or more columns of facts.
  • Link to a file with a path (packages/core/prompt.ts) instead of pasting large blocks of it.

Structure of a doc

  1. One-line statement of what it covers.
  2. The shortest path to doing the thing.
  3. Flags/options/edge cases.
  4. Troubleshooting, only if there are known failure modes.

Don't

  • Don't duplicate content across files — put it in one place and link.
  • Don't document internals users can't reach, or plans that aren't built yet.
  • Don't leave stale docs behind: when you change behavior, update or delete the doc in the same change.
