Commit is an agent skill from LennartHennigs/ESPRotary. Stage and commit current changes for ESPRotary — checks for needed CHANGELOG/README/CLAUDE.md updates, creates a branch if on master, writes a commit message, and commits
Its SKILL.md is about 590 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development, covering Commit messages, Changelog and release notes and Agent instruction files. It works with Git. The repository describes itself as: Arduino/ESP library to simplify reading rotary encoder data. The licence is MIT.
6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2d029ba. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
gitFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Commit loads about 590 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 293 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/commit/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Commit the current working changes. Follow these steps:
Run git diff --stat and git status to see what files are modified or untracked. Read the diffs for any changed source files (src/, test/, examples/) to understand the nature of the changes.
Run git branch --show-current. If on master or main:
fix/phantom-event, feat/context, docs/readme-update)git checkout -b <branch-name>If any source files (src/, test/, examples/) changed, check whether the ## Unreleased section of CHANGELOG.md documents those changes. If not, add the missing entries under ## Unreleased following the established format (American English spelling):
Skip changelog update for whitespace-only, comment, or docs-only changes.
If the public API changed (new/removed/renamed methods in src/ESPRotary.h), check whether README.md reflects the change — both the prose sections and the "Class Definition" code block. If not, update them. Skip for internal or test-only changes.
If a non-obvious pattern, gotcha, or invariant was introduced that future sessions should know about (e.g. the last_steps sync invariant), add a concise note to CLAUDE.md. Do not add obvious or one-off information.
Stage all relevant files:
git add <changed source files> CHANGELOG.md # plus README.md / CLAUDE.md if updatedWrite a conventional commit message:
fix: for bug fixesfeat: for new featurestest: for test-only changesdocs: for documentation onlychore: / release: for tooling, config, infra, version bumpsKeep the subject line under 72 characters. Add a short body if the why isn't obvious from the subject.
Run git commit -m "..." and confirm success.

Stage and commit current changes for ESPRotary — checks for needed CHANGELOG/README/CLAUDE.md updates, creates a branch if on master, writes a commit message, and commits. Commit is an agent skill from LennartHennigs/ESPRotary.
Commit fits situations like: tasks that involve Commit messages; tasks that involve Changelog and release notes; tasks that involve Agent instruction files.
Run `npx skills add LennartHennigs/ESPRotary --skill commit -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/commit in LennartHennigs/ESPRotary) into .claude/skills/commit in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add LennartHennigs/ESPRotary --skill commit -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/commit in LennartHennigs/ESPRotary) into .agents/skills/commit in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add LennartHennigs/ESPRotary --skill commit -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/commit, .gemini/skills/commit, .github/skills/commit and .opencode/skills/commit in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Commit needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Commit is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 590 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
