dataforseo-mcp-serverRun DataForSEO API tasks via the CLI in a shell (docs index, docs search, request).
Dataforseo MCP Server is an agent skill from dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript. Run DataForSEO API tasks via the CLI in a shell (docs index, docs search, request). Use when the agent should execute terminal commands with npx dataforseo-mcp-server.
Its SKILL.md is about 2.4k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 87 other files, including scripts (for example `.github/dependabot.yml`, `.github/workflows/docker.yaml` and `.github/workflows/npm.yaml`).
It sits in Agent Workflows, covering MCP servers. It works with Model Context Protocol and TypeScript. The repository describes itself as: DataForSEO API modelcontextprotocol server. The licence is Apache-2.0.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 1fc6d19. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 2 files in scripts/ (TypeScript and JavaScript, from the files we listed), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
npxnpmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
docs.dataforseo.comdata.dataforseo.comapi.dataforseo.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
DATAFORSEO_PASSWORDFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Dataforseo MCP Server loads about 2.4k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 47 tokens; SKILL.md has 758 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript at commit 1fc6d19, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© dataforseo). 758 words, ~2,399 tokens.
.claude/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 83 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Run shell commands and read stdout/stderr. Always invoke the tool through the terminal — never substitute another integration path.

Working directory: any directory where credentials are available in the environment (for CLI).
| Mode | Preferred auth | Fallback |
|---|---|---|

HTTP MCP (--mode http) | OAuth 2.0 Bearer via authorization server https://data.dataforseo.com (discovery at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource) | DATAFORSEO_LOGIN + DATAFORSEO_PASSWORD in env |
CLI (docs / request / --cli) | Env credentials (HTTP Basic) | — |
Override the authorization server with AUTH_SERVER_URL if needed.
| Task | Shell command |
|---|---|
| Docs index | npx dataforseo-mcp-server docs index [--section "SERP API"] |
| List sections | npx dataforseo-mcp-server docs index --list-sections |
| Endpoint docs | npx dataforseo-mcp-server docs search <url-or-path> |

By default, API paths use the .ai suffix (e.g. /v3/serp/google/organic/live/regular.ai). Pass --no-ai-mode to use the standard path.
CLI credentials (fallback / shell): set DATAFORSEO_LOGIN and DATAFORSEO_PASSWORD as environment variables. Get keys at https://app.dataforseo.com/api-access
export DATAFORSEO_LOGIN=your_api_login
export DATAFORSEO_PASSWORD=your_api_passwordWindows PowerShell: $env:DATAFORSEO_LOGIN="..." / $env:DATAFORSEO_PASSWORD="...". CMD: set DATAFORSEO_LOGIN=...
DATAFORSEO_USERNAME is also accepted as an alias for DATAFORSEO_LOGIN. For HTTP MCP, prefer OAuth; env credentials are only a fallback when no Authorization header is present.
Run these steps as separate shell commands:
npx dataforseo-mcp-server docs index --section "<API>" — find endpoint path.npx dataforseo-mcp-server docs search <path> — read method, parameters, example body.npx dataforseo-mcp-server request -X <METHOD> -p <path> --param key=value ... (or -d '<json-array>') — call API.Parse the printed output to decide the next step.
POST endpoints accept a JSON array of task objects: [{ ... }].
Preferred: pass fields with repeatable --param key=value (merged into the first task object). Use exact API field names from endpoint docs (e.g. keyword, language_code, location_code).
--param values override the same fields in -d JSON when both are used.
Array values (PowerShell strips " inside [...], so prefer these forms):
# single-item array
--param keywords=[phone]
# multiple items (pipe-separated)
--param keywords=[phone|tablet|laptop]
# or repeat the same key
--param keywords=phone --param keywords=tablet
# order_by with comma inside the value
--param order_by=[keyword_info.search_volume,desc]Valid JSON in --param still works when your shell preserves quotes (bash: 'keywords=["phone"]').

Run DataForSEO API tasks via the CLI in a shell (docs index, docs search, request). Dataforseo MCP Server is an agent skill from dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript. Run DataForSEO API tasks via the CLI in a shell (docs index, docs search, request).
Dataforseo MCP Server fits situations like: the agent should execute terminal commands with npx dataforseo-mcp-server; tasks that involve MCP servers.
Run `npx skills add dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript --skill dataforseo-mcp-server -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (the dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript repository) into .claude/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript --skill dataforseo-mcp-server -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (the dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript repository) into .agents/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript --skill dataforseo-mcp-server -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server, .gemini/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server, .github/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server and .opencode/skills/dataforseo-mcp-server in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Dataforseo MCP Server needs TypeScript and JavaScript for the scripts in its folder, the command-line tools its instructions call (npx and npm) and credentials named DATAFORSEO_PASSWORD. Our summary lists: Node.js.
SKILL.md names 3 domains. In commands or code: docs.dataforseo.com, data.dataforseo.com and api.dataforseo.com; the agent is likely to contact these when it follows the instructions. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Dataforseo MCP Server is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (from the LICENSE file in the skill folder). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 2.4k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 9.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
