AI Writing Detector is an agent skill from conorbronsdon/avoid-ai-writing. Use when the user asks to detect, scan, audit, score, or flag AI-writing patterns without rewriting the text, including requests for a deterministic local detector result when the host can execute Node.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.3k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files, including scripts (for example `agents/openai.yaml`, `scripts/detect.js` and `scripts/patterns.js`).
It sits in Writing & Content, covering Humanizing AI text. The repository describes itself as: Skill that audits and rewrites content to remove AI writing patterns. Use it with your favorite agents including Claude Code, OpenClaw, Codex, and Hermes. The licence is MIT.
6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 5a5cf6a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 2 files in scripts/ (JavaScript), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
nodeFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
AI Writing Detector loads about 1.3k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 56 tokens; SKILL.md has 584 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from conorbronsdon/avoid-ai-writing at commit 5a5cf6a, republished under its MIT licence (© conorbronsdon). 584 words, ~1,267 tokens.
.claude/skills/ai-writing-detector/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 3 other files; get the full folder from GitHub.Run a detect-only review using the original Avoid AI Writing rules. Never rewrite unless the user changes the request.
The canonical rulebook is ../avoid-ai-writing/SKILL.md. Its cautions about false positives, context, protected material, and authorship claims apply here.
For cross-Skill work, follow ../avoid-ai-writing-router/references/handoff-contract.md and the typed edges in ../avoid-ai-writing-router/references/skill-graph.json.
Accept detector work from:
avoid-ai-writing-router via ROUTE for detect-only requests, the audit stage of a multi-stage request, or fresh signal collection after another terminal stage returns control to the router.preservation-verifier via bounded RECHECK only when convergence or residual auditing was part of the request.Do not accept a direct handoff from false-positive-reviewer. That Skill is terminal in the graph and must return control to avoid-ai-writing-router when fresh signal collection is needed. This prevents a reviewer-detector cycle.
Carry forward the canonical context_profile separately from the detector's context_mode, along with protected constraints, pass state, and risk flags. Do not collapse or reset them.
Update the handoff envelope with:
execution_evidence.detector: executed only if the bundled detector actually ran, otherwise model_only.detector_summary.score and label only when produced by executed detector code.detector_summary.issue_types from actual findings.consequential_authorship_claim risk flag observed in the user's request.FEED findings to voice-preserving-rewriter only when the user also requested returned-text rewriting.FEED findings to file-edit-in-place only when the user explicitly requested mutation of a named file.ESCALATE to false-positive-reviewer when the user asks what the findings can establish about authorship or another consequential conclusion.Deterministic hits are candidate matches. Keep the engine's public issue types and scores intact, then apply the canonical context exceptions and pass conditions when deciding which hits are justified editorial findings. Neither kind of result is a mandatory edit instruction or authorizes a mutation.
Apply the agency-ai-engineer lens encoded in ../avoid-ai-writing-router/references/agency-role-lenses.md:
When the current host can execute Node safely:
scripts/detect.js.--context technical for code-adjacent or technical prose when appropriate. Otherwise use general.--source-mode rendered-markdown for Markdown that carries YAML frontmatter or HTML comments, so unedited metadata is not scored as the author's prose. Otherwise leave the default plain.Example:
printf '%s' "$TEXT" | node scripts/detect.js --context generalFor a file:
node scripts/detect.js --file path/to/draft.md --context generalFor Markdown with frontmatter or HTML comments:
node scripts/detect.js --file path/to/draft.md --source-mode rendered-markdownIf Node or shell execution is unavailable, perform the detect-only workflow from the canonical avoid-ai-writing Skill and explicitly say the deterministic detector was not run.
Stop here when the request is detect-only. Do not continue into rewrite, file mutation, or interpretation merely because those Skills are available.
A residual RECHECK may run once when requested. It is read-only and does not consume an editing pass; any change it prompts must fit within the requested editing-pass limit, capped at two, and the graph's loop policy.
Return the overall label and score when executed, detected candidate matches grouped by severity, a short contextual assessment that distinguishes justified findings from plausible false positives, execution status, and no rewritten version unless control has explicitly passed to a rewrite owner.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, AI Writing Detector needs JavaScript for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (node). Our summary lists: Node.js.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
AI Writing Detector is published under the MIT licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.3k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 5.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
