At a glance

Runs the local OpenClaw main agent once with a JSON message and judges success from the returned payload, not only from the exit code.

  • Works in 3 steps: Set the Bash working directory to the… → Check availability with command -v… → Run the local main agent once
  • Delegating a bounded task to the OpenClaw main agent
  • SKILL.md covers Run and Authentication And Permissions
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

For a bounded task you want OpenClaw's main agent to handle, the skill runs `openclaw agent --local --agent main` with the prompt as a message and JSON output, inside the directory you authorized. The command carries `--timeout 600`, and the outer shell timeout is set slightly longer, normally 11 minutes, after a `command -v openclaw` check.

The JSON payload must be parsed even when the process exits zero, because OpenClaw can report a failure inside a successful exit; payload errors and timeouts count as failures. The local agent may call whatever tools are configured, so the prompt stays read-only by default and nothing may change files or outside systems without your explicit request. Onboarding, the interactive TUI and login flows are never started, and missing provider, model or credentials end the run with a request to configure OpenClaw in Code Mate.

When your agent uses it

  • Delegating a bounded task to the OpenClaw main agent
  • Getting a structured response from a local OpenClaw agent
  • Explaining a module through OpenClaw without letting it change anything

Example prompts

  • “Ask the OpenClaw main agent to explain the scheduler module in ./core without changing it.”
  • “Run OpenClaw on this project and tell me whether its JSON payload reported any error.”
  • “Delegate a read-only summary of the unfinished work noted in code comments under src to OpenClaw.”

Requirements

  • OpenClaw installed and onboarded through Code Mate
  • Provider, model and credentials configured in Code Mate

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact directory the user authorized and set a finite outer timeout, normally 11 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v openclaw. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install OpenClaw in Code Mate.
  3. Run the local main agent once

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit dd0767e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

OpenClaw Local Agent Delegation loads about 373 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 45 tokens; SKILL.md has 191 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~45
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~373

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Runs a local OpenClaw agent non-interactively and returns its structured response. Use when the user asks to delegate a bounded task to the OpenClaw main agent.

OpenClaw

Run

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact directory the user authorized and set a finite outer timeout, normally 11 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v openclaw. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install OpenClaw in Code Mate.
  3. Run the local main agent once:
bash
openclaw agent --local --agent main --message "<prompt>" --json --timeout 600

Pass the prompt as one quoted argument. Parse the JSON payload even when the process exits zero: OpenClaw can encode failure in a successful process exit. Report payload errors and timeouts as failures. Never start onboarding, the interactive TUI, or a login flow.

Authentication And Permissions

If OpenClaw reports missing onboarding, provider, model, or credentials, stop and ask the user to configure OpenClaw in Code Mate. Never request, read, print, or copy credentials.

The local agent can invoke configured tools. Keep the prompt read-only by default and do not ask it to mutate files or external systems unless the user explicitly requested workspace changes or that external effect. Limit it to the selected working directory.

Example: ask the main agent to explain a module without changing it, then accept the response only when the JSON payload reports success.
