At a glance

Hands a bounded repository task to the DeepSeek Harness CLI (dsh) in headless mode, then checks the exit code and the diff before reporting back.

  • Works in 3 steps: Set the Bash working directory to the… → Check availability with command -v dsh.… → Run one headless task
  • Handing a bounded analysis task to DeepSeek Harness instead of doing it yourself
  • SKILL.md covers Run and Authentication And Permissions
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

When you ask to delegate analysis or implementation to DeepSeek Harness, the agent runs it through the `dsh` command in its headless profile. It first points the shell at the project you named, sets a finite timeout of normally 10 minutes, and confirms that `dsh` exists, stopping to ask you to install it in Code Mate if it does not.

The prompt goes in as one quoted argument and stdout is read as plain final text, with exit code zero meaning success and one meaning the task failed or did not finish. The agent never opens the interactive UI or a login flow and never asks for credentials. Because headless runs can write to the workspace and keep a persistent session, read-only jobs are phrased as no-edit requests and the repository diff is inspected afterward.

When your agent uses it

  • Handing a bounded analysis task to DeepSeek Harness instead of doing it yourself
  • Getting a second opinion on a failing test from DeepSeek Harness
  • Delegating a scoped implementation change inside one project

Example prompts

  • “Ask DeepSeek Harness to diagnose why tests/auth.test.ts fails, without editing any files.”
  • “Delegate the pagination refactor in ./api to DeepSeek Harness and show me the diff afterward.”
  • “Run DeepSeek Harness on this repo and summarize what it reports about the build error.”

Requirements

  • The dsh command (DeepSeek Harness installed through Code Mate)
  • Provider and model already configured in Code Mate

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact project the user named and set a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v dsh. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install DeepSeek Harness in Code Mate.
  3. Run one headless task

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit dd0767e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

DeepSeek Harness Delegation loads about 359 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 195 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~359

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Runs DeepSeek Harness headlessly for bounded repository tasks. Use when the user asks to delegate analysis or implementation to DeepSeek Harness.

DeepSeek Harness

Run

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact project the user named and set a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v dsh. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install DeepSeek Harness in Code Mate.
  3. Run one headless task:
bash
dsh --profile headless "<prompt>"

Pass the prompt as one quoted argument. Treat stdout as final text, not JSON. Exit zero means success; exit one means the task failed or did not complete. Never start the interactive UI or a login flow.

Authentication And Permissions

If DSH reports a missing provider, model, or API configuration, stop and ask the user to configure DeepSeek Harness in Code Mate. Never request, read, print, or copy credentials.

Headless DSH can write to the workspace and creates a persistent session. For read-only work, explicitly tell it not to modify files and inspect the repository diff afterward. Allow modifications only when the user explicitly requested workspace changes, and restrict the working directory to the intended project.

Example: ask DSH to diagnose a test failure without editing, run it in the repository, confirm exit zero and a clean diff, then summarize its final text.
