At a glance

Delegates repository analysis or implementation to the Codex CLI in a single non-interactive run, with a read-only sandbox by default.

  • Works in 3 steps: Set the Bash working directory to the… → Check availability with command -v… → Run one task and exit
  • Delegating a repository analysis to Codex CLI
  • SKILL.md covers Run and Authentication And Permissions
  • Calls codex

What it does

Repository work is handed to the Codex CLI in one non-interactive run. The agent sets the working directory to the project you named, applies a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes, confirms codex is installed with command -v, and runs codex exec with the prompt and --json. Output is read as JSONL in event order, the final agent message is the result, and an error event or a nonzero exit counts as failure.

Safety limits are explicit. The run uses a read-only sandbox unless you asked for workspace changes, and then the narrowest suitable sandbox and directory. The flag that bypasses approvals and the sandbox is never used, and the Git repository check is skipped only when you chose a non-Git directory. The agent never starts interactive codex or login and never requests, reads, prints or copies credentials; if login or API setup is missing, it stops and asks you to finish setup in Code Mate.

When your agent uses it

  • Delegating a repository analysis to Codex CLI
  • Getting a second coding agent's review of a change
  • Running a bounded implementation task through Codex with your approval

Example prompts

  • “Ask Codex to review the auth module in ./api and report problems without modifying files.”
  • “Have Codex implement the retry logic in ./client, using the narrowest sandbox that allows edits.”
  • “Get a second opinion from Codex on why this migration fails.”

Requirements

  • The Codex CLI installed and set up in Code Mate

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact project the user named and set a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v codex. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install Codex CLI in Code Mate.
  3. Run one task and exit

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit dd0767e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • codex

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Codex CLI Delegation loads about 363 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 48 tokens; SKILL.md has 183 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~48
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~363

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Runs Codex CLI non-interactively for code analysis and implementation tasks. Use when the user asks to delegate repository work to Codex or obtain a second coding-agent result.

Codex CLI

Run

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact project the user named and set a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v codex. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install Codex CLI in Code Mate.
  3. Run one task and exit:
bash
codex exec "<prompt>" --json

Pass the prompt as one quoted argument. Parse stdout as JSONL, preserve event order, and use the final agent message as the result. Treat an error event or nonzero exit as failure. Never start interactive codex or codex login.

Authentication And Permissions

If Codex reports missing login or API configuration, stop and ask the user to finish Codex setup in Code Mate. Never request, read, print, or copy credentials.

Use --sandbox read-only unless the user explicitly requested workspace changes. For an approved edit, use only the narrowest suitable sandbox and working directory; never add --dangerously-bypass-approvals-and-sandbox. Add --skip-git-repo-check only when the user intentionally selected a non-Git directory.

Example: for a review request, append --sandbox read-only, ask Codex not to modify files, and summarize the final JSONL message plus any reported errors.
