What it does

Data Ownership is an agent skill from celeriant/celeriant-db. Choose ownership when introducing globals, borrowed struct fields, clones, shared pointers, or store handles.

Its SKILL.md is about 450 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Backend & APIs. The repository describes itself as: Fast, distributed per-aggregate event log with strict ordering and optimistic concurrency control. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Remove the field; pass a borrow to the operation.
  2. Own the value when it belongs to the struct.
  3. Share immutable data through Arc, or Rc when sharing stays within one thread. Arc is not required in thread per core.
  4. Use an index or handle when a central store already owns the data. Preserve handle validity across removal and reuse.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d071a6d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Data Ownership loads about 453 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 31 tokens; SKILL.md has 232 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~31
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~453

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Data ownership

Pass dependencies explicitly

  • Pass values that tests or callers may need to vary.
  • Use const for fixed values.
  • Restrict globals to process-wide infrastructure, such as allocators and tracing or metrics registration.
  • Initialize process-wide configuration before starting work. Use OnceLock for shared initialization with inputs; use LazyLock when initialization needs none.
  • Isolate tests that require different global registrations. Pass deterministic seeds into workloads.
  • Use OnceCell for thread-local ownership; do not place it in a shared static.

Borrow within operations

  • Accept references when ownership is unnecessary. Prefer elided signatures such as fn host(address: &str) -> Result<&str, Error>.
  • Follow CLAUDE.md's permission requirement before adding explicit lifetime parameters.
  • Avoid storing borrows in long-lived structs. Check how a stored borrow constrains holders and async tasks.
  • Reserve borrowed adapters for scoped operations, such as iterators, guards, and readers. Consider an owning adapter when callers must store or return it.

Choose stored ownership

Consider these options in order:

  1. Remove the field; pass a borrow to the operation.
  2. Own the value when it belongs to the struct.
  3. Share immutable data through Arc<T>, or Rc<T> when sharing stays within one thread. Arc is not required in thread per core.
  4. Use an index or handle when a central store already owns the data. Preserve handle validity across removal and reuse.

Measure allocation and atomic costs before introducing them on a hot path. Load build-method:performance-discipline for that work.

How do I install Data Ownership in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add celeriant/celeriant-db --skill data-ownership -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/data-ownership in celeriant/celeriant-db) into .claude/skills/data-ownership in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Data Ownership in Codex?

Run `npx skills add celeriant/celeriant-db --skill data-ownership -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/data-ownership in celeriant/celeriant-db) into .agents/skills/data-ownership in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Data Ownership in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add celeriant/celeriant-db --skill data-ownership -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/data-ownership, .gemini/skills/data-ownership, .github/skills/data-ownership and .opencode/skills/data-ownership in your project.

What does Data Ownership need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Data Ownership is instructions for the agent only.

Does Data Ownership access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Data Ownership safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Data Ownership use?

Data Ownership is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Data Ownership use?

About 453 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Data Ownership?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Data Ownership: Configuring Horizon (coollabsio/coolify, 63k stars), Nestjs Best Practices (rolling-scopes/rsschool-app, 10k stars), Sub2API Admin (Wei-Shaw/sub2api, 43k stars) and Firecrawl Build Onboarding (firecrawl/firecrawl, 189k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
