What it does

Quantum is an agent skill from autonomous-ai/openharness. Build, explain and verify small quantum circuits in Quantum Studio's editable statevector simulator.

Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 9 other files, including scripts (for example `scripts/build-quantum.sh` and `scripts/studio.js`).

It sits in Research & Science, covering Quantum computing. The repository describes itself as: The ultimate harness for coding agents and beyond. All your agents. All your machines. One command center. Start with code, then follow your curiosity and build across… The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Quantum computing

Example prompts

  • “/quantum”

Requirements

  • Node.js
  • A Bash shell

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 54a1f1b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships 8 files in scripts/ (JavaScript and Shell), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • node
    • sh

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Quantum loads about 601 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 27 tokens; SKILL.md has 265 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~27
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~601

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

The saved source is circuit.json:

json
{"name":"Bell state","qubits":["q0","q1"],"gates":[{"gate":"H","target":0},{"gate":"CX","control":0,"target":1}],"shots":1024}

Limits: 1–8 uniquely named qubits, 256 gates, 1–100,000 shots. Gates apply in array order. Targets and controls are zero-based. The basis is |q(n−1)…q1q0⟩: qubit 0 is the rightmost bit.

Supported gates: H, X, Y, Z, S, T, SDG, TDG, RX, RY, RZ, CX (alias CNOT), CZ, SWAP. Rotations use theta in radians in JSON; the UI slider displays degrees. Two-qubit gates require distinct control and target. Arbitrary matrices and mid-circuit measurements are not supported. Terminal measure markers may be present, but the displayed state is premeasurement. The shot sampler draws computational-basis outcomes from the joint Born probabilities, without collapse, noise, hardware jobs or persistent quantum state.

Bloch vectors are reduced single-qubit expectations. A Bell pair has individually maximally mixed qubits (purity 0.5), not unit vectors. Preserve their lengths; do not normalize them for display.

Build and prove

sh
sh "$QUANTUM_SKILLS/quantum/scripts/build-quantum.sh"
node "$QUANTUM_SKILLS/quantum/scripts/proof.mjs" circuit.json
node "$QUANTUM_SKILLS/quantum/scripts/screenshot.mjs" "$HARNESS_WORKSPACE/index.html"
node "$QUANTUM_SKILLS/quantum/scripts/perf.mjs" "$HARNESS_WORKSPACE/index.html"

Build validates the schema and finite normalized state, safely embeds JSON, and updates the verdict. Failures clear readiness even if an older HTML export remains. Add assertions for the expected state, not just its norm. engine.mjs exports simulate, probabilities, bloch and sampleShots for tests.

The browser proof also needs Playwright + Chromium (shared viewer installation or PLAYWRIGHT_MODULE) and a current proof.json interaction recipe. It checks actual results, records errors/hashes and captures .harness/last.png. Inspect the image, stepping, edits, undo/redo and narrow layout.

The user can edit gates, scrub the timeline, change rotation phase and sample shots directly. Those edits stay in browser memory. Download the circuit and save it to the workspace to preserve it; never imply the viewer wrote back to disk.

Questions about Quantum

What does Quantum do?

Build, explain and verify small quantum circuits in Quantum Studio's editable statevector simulator. Quantum is an agent skill from autonomous-ai/openharness. Build, explain and verify small quantum circuits in Quantum Studio's editable statevector simulator.

When should I use Quantum?

Quantum fits situations like: tasks that involve Quantum computing.

How do I install Quantum in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill quantum -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/quantum-studio/skills/quantum in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .claude/skills/quantum in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Quantum in Codex?

Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill quantum -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/quantum-studio/skills/quantum in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .agents/skills/quantum in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Quantum in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill quantum -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/quantum, .gemini/skills/quantum, .github/skills/quantum and .opencode/skills/quantum in your project.

What does Quantum need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Quantum needs JavaScript and a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (node and sh). Our summary lists: Node.js; A Bash shell.

Does Quantum access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Quantum safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.

What licence does Quantum use?

Quantum is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Quantum use?

About 601 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Quantum?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Quantum: Qiskit 2.x Quantum ML Reference (aiming-lab/AutoResearchClaw, 15k stars), Qutip (zLanqing/codex-claude-academic-skills, 4.6k stars), Mindquantum (mindspore-ai/mindquantum, 101 stars) and Mq Circuit Compiler (mindspore-ai/mindquantum, 101 stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
