Jev Trader is an agent skill from autonomous-ai/openharness. Design and verify Jev's paper-trading desks in OpenHarness's viewer, where Jev trades a synthetic market live.
Its SKILL.md is about 630 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Business, Finance & HR, covering Trading and backtesting. The repository describes itself as: The ultimate harness for coding agents and beyond. All your agents. All your machines. One command center. Start with code, then follow your curiosity and build across… The licence is MIT.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 74c2733. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
nodeFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
TYPESAFE_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Jev Trader loads about 630 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 30 tokens; SKILL.md has 272 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from autonomous-ai/openharness at commit 74c2733, republished under its MIT licence (© autonomous-ai). 272 words, ~630 tokens.
.claude/skills/jev-trader/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Jev Trader shows a live paper-trading desk: Jev (TypeSafe's System One model) reads a synthetic
price tape + its own P&L and decides buy / hold / sell each tick. The agent designs market.json —
the market Jev trades and the style brief it follows.
market.json (instrument, volatility, trend, drift, fee, style). The viewer watches it and
reframes Jev live — no restart, no second server. Changing startPrice, capital, seed or
episodeDays restarts the paper year.node "$JEV_DSH/toolchain/check.mjs" verifies the workspace's market.json is valid and
reports the verdict. Run it before you call a desk done..harness/verdict.json carries the same numbers.The viewer shows Jev's last action (BUY/HOLD/SELL), shares, equity and confidence. A good desk
produces policy: Jev should react to the tape you gave it, not move the same way regardless of
your market. A decisive style brief + a real trend yields readable behavior; a flat, driftless
market makes any movement look like noise.
node "$JEV_DSH/toolchain/check.mjs" returns non-zero when market.json is invalid (bad price, ms,
capital). It doesn't replace watching the curve: confirm the market ticks, Jev's equity moves, and
its actions vary with the market rather than blindly holding.
toolchain/jev.mjs exports a small client. Example (from the workspace) — ask Jev's read on a
market before you commit:
node --input-type=module -e '
import { evaluate, jev } from "$JEV_DSH/toolchain/jev.mjs";
const res = await evaluate({
state: "Market: SYNTH, per-step volatility 0.05 with a strong upward drift. Would a momentum Jev be profitable with a buy-the-trend style?",
questions: {
edge: jev.noul("Is there a tradable edge here for a momentum trader?"),
churn: jev.score({0:"no",1:"some",2:"a lot"}, "How much would this market cause needless overtrading?"),
},
});
console.log(JSON.stringify(res.answers, null, 2));
'Without TYPESAFE_API_KEY this uses the deterministic mock; set the key to hit live Jev.

Jev Trader fits situations like: tasks that involve Trading and backtesting.
Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill jev-trader -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/jev-trader/skills/trader in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .claude/skills/jev-trader in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill jev-trader -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/jev-trader/skills/trader in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .agents/skills/jev-trader in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill jev-trader -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/jev-trader, .gemini/skills/jev-trader, .github/skills/jev-trader and .opencode/skills/jev-trader in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Jev Trader needs the command-line tools its instructions call (node) and credentials named TYPESAFE_API_KEY. Our summary lists: A credential in TYPESAFE_API_KEY.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Jev Trader is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 630 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
