What it does

Gis is an agent skill from autonomous-ai/openharness. Build and verify interactive GeoJSON maps in Atlas, with local exploration, safe imports, feature inspection and export.

Its SKILL.md is about 580 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 3 other files, including scripts.

It sits in Testing & QA. It works with Playwright. The repository describes itself as: The ultimate harness for coding agents and beyond. All your agents. All your machines. One command center. Start with code, then follow your curiosity and build across… The licence is MIT.

Requirements

  • Node.js

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 74c2733. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships 2 files in scripts/ (JavaScript), which the agent can run.

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • node

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Gis loads about 580 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 31 tokens; SKILL.md has 283 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~31
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~580

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

Build and verify interactive GeoJSON maps in Atlas, with local exploration, safe imports, feature inspection and export.

Atlas

The starter uses locally vendored Leaflet 1.9.4 and Natural Earth 1:110m country outlines. No internet or tile account is required. Keep attribution and vendor/LICENSE when reusing them. Use relative URLs in the shared sandboxed viewer. For detailed streets or large datasets, choose appropriate licensed tiles/data explicitly; do not present the coarse offline layer as detailed mapping.

cities.geojson seeds real locations with illustrative population values, not official estimates. Imported GeoJSON must be a WGS 84 FeatureCollection, coordinates [longitude, latitude]. The local validator handles Point, LineString, Polygon and Multi variants, up to 2,000 features, 100,000 vertices and a 5 MB upload. Closed rings are checked; polygon topology/self-intersections are not. Simplify large data or use a more suitable renderer instead of freezing the UI.

The feature list shows at most 100 names while the map renders all filtered features. Search, geometry filtering, selection and export use the same source records. Use textContent for properties and tooltips; never interpolate uploaded strings as HTML.

The distance tool measures a mean-radius spherical great-circle distance between two points; its straight map segment is only a visual connector. It is not a road route or survey result. Antimeridian data may need split geometries for intuitive display in Web Mercator. Imports are temporary browser state; export to persist.

Prove and inspect

sh
node "$GIS_SKILLS/gis/scripts/proof.mjs" "$HARNESS_WORKSPACE/index.html"
node "$GIS_SKILLS/gis/scripts/perf.mjs" "$HARNESS_WORKSPACE/index.html"

Helpers use the real shared HTTP viewer, current proof.json interaction assertions and Playwright with Chromium. Install Playwright in the shared viewer or set PLAYWRIGHT_MODULE to its index.mjs. Proof captures .harness/last.png, errors and dependency hashes and updates the verdict. Inspect pan/zoom, search, selection, two-point measurement, import/export and a narrow viewport. Test an empty selection, malformed GeoJSON and untrusted property text. Never call a map verified because a Leaflet container merely exists.

Questions about Gis

What does Gis do?

Build and verify interactive GeoJSON maps in Atlas, with local exploration, safe imports, feature inspection and export. Gis is an agent skill from autonomous-ai/openharness. Build and verify interactive GeoJSON maps in Atlas, with local exploration, safe imports, feature inspection and export.

When should I use Gis?

Gis fits situations like: testing & QA work in your project.

How do I install Gis in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill gis -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/gis/skills/gis in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .claude/skills/gis in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Gis in Codex?

Run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill gis -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (store/agents/gis/skills/gis in autonomous-ai/openharness) into .agents/skills/gis in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Gis in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add autonomous-ai/openharness --skill gis -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/gis, .gemini/skills/gis, .github/skills/gis and .opencode/skills/gis in your project.

What does Gis need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Gis needs JavaScript for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (node). Our summary lists: Node.js.

Does Gis access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Gis safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.

What licence does Gis use?

Gis is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Gis use?

About 580 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Gis?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Gis: Web Application Testing (anthropics/skills, 180k stars), Playwright CLI (sanity-io/sanity, 6.4k stars), Write and Verify Playwright Tests (appsmithorg/appsmith, 41k stars) and playwright-cli Browser Automation (github/gh-aw, 5.4k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Gis?

autonomous-ai (a GitHub organization) maintains it in autonomous-ai/openharness, which has 1,194 GitHub stars. The repository holds 99 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on October 9, 2026.
