What it does

Go Development is an agent skill from Argus-Labs/world-engine. Apply Scott's Go engineering conventions when designing, editing, or reviewing Go code. Covers package ownership, preferred libraries, and verification.

Its SKILL.md is about 890 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Game Development, covering Game development. The repository describes itself as: Seed of a new world. An onchain game engine, built for devs with ambition. (world/acc). The licence is LGPL-3.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Game development

Example prompts

  • “/go-development”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e157ede. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Go Development loads about 893 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 42 tokens; SKILL.md has 391 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~42
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~893

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check: notes

The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.

  • NoteMentions a .env fileSKILL.md:47

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Apply Scott's Go engineering conventions when designing, editing, or reviewing Go code. Covers package ownership, preferred libraries, and verification.

Go Development

Follow clear repository conventions first. Otherwise use the preferences below for new and relevant touched code. A small Go fix does not authorize a dependency migration, project-wide lint rule, or package reorganization. For command or terminal work, also read go-cli.

Package ownership

Infer the product and module boundaries from go.mod, go.work, and the existing layout. Use cmd/<name> and private internal/... packages in single-project repositories. In a monorepo, keep deployables under its established application or service boundary. Reserve pkg/... for intentionally shared code.

Prefer concrete types and small exported APIs. Introduce interfaces at consumer boundaries for real alternatives or testing needs. Convert generated, transport, persistence, and domain shapes at the owning boundary. Use named domain identifiers when crossing packages.

Prefer one primary struct per file, with its constructor and closely related methods. Split supporting concerns when they grow. Name constructors New when the package supplies the type's name. Use functional options when optional behavior or actual construction variants justify them, not for speculative extension points.

Prefer channels or atomics over a mutex only when they express the actual synchronization more clearly. Keep comments for non-obvious constraints rather than narrating code.

Library preferences

ConcernDefault
Loggingzerolog
Environment configurationenvconfig
JSONgoccy/go-json, imported as json
Input validationgo-playground/validator
Test assertionsstretchr/testify
Test runnergotestsum
Lintinggolangci-lint

Check existing dependencies before adding any. Prefer zerolog over introducing slog unless a repository convention or public API requires it. Normalize input once at capture boundaries. Prefer validation tags on input structs and translate failures at the API or command boundary. Optional .env files may be absent, but typed environment parsing errors must surface.

Errors and verification

Use sentinel domain errors for expected outcomes and preserve errors. Is matching. Translate dependency-specific absence close to the dependency. Wrap infrastructure errors where useful context is added. Keep expected validation failures distinct from unexpected infrastructure failures.

Use repository test and lint commands. Otherwise use gotestsum with the relevant package selection and golangci-lint. Limit nolint to a named linter with a real reason. Encode agreed project-wide library restrictions in lint configuration when that is in scope.

With testify, prefer require for preconditions and assert for independent observations. Use isolated filesystem and environment state. Parallelize only tests without shared process state. Prefer package-internal tests unless public API behavior benefits from an external-package test. Verify relevant transitions and boundaries, not implementation text.

When should I use Go Development?

Go Development fits situations like: tasks that involve Game development.

How do I install Go Development in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add Argus-Labs/world-engine --skill go-development -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/go-development in Argus-Labs/world-engine) into .claude/skills/go-development in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Go Development in Codex?

Run `npx skills add Argus-Labs/world-engine --skill go-development -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/go-development in Argus-Labs/world-engine) into .agents/skills/go-development in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Go Development in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Argus-Labs/world-engine --skill go-development -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/go-development, .gemini/skills/go-development, .github/skills/go-development and .opencode/skills/go-development in your project.

What does Go Development need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Go Development is instructions for the agent only.

Does Go Development access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Go Development safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (mentions a .env file), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Go Development use?

Go Development is published under the LGPL-3.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Go Development use?

About 893 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.6k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Go Development?
