architect-calculatorSeven command-line Python calculators for early architectural checks: area and density, U-value, daylight factor, egress, structural load, energy demand and cost.
Each calculator is a script in scripts/ that takes command-line arguments, validates them and prints readable output, or structured JSON when you add --json. The area calculator turns a site area and floor area ratio into gross floor area, net usable area, unit count, population and parking, with defaults such as a net-to-gross ratio of 0.80, an 85 m2 average unit and 2.5 persons per unit.
The U-value script sums layer and surface thermal resistances for a multi-layer wall, roof or floor, with layers passed as a JSON string. The others estimate daylight factor with the BRE method, check egress (occupant load, exit width, travel distance), compute gravity loads and tributary areas, estimate annual energy demand by the degree-day method, and estimate construction cost by building type, quality and region. A calculator-reference.md file documents the parameters.
7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 30a0845. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 7 files in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
pythonFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Architect Calculators loads about 3.4k tokens when it runs, and up to ~6.2k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 134 tokens; SKILL.md has 635 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.
The full file from Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects at commit 30a0845, republished under its MIT licence (© Abhinavbwj). 635 words, ~3,413 tokens.

Seven command-line Python calculators for early architectural checks: area and density, U-value, daylight factor, egress, structural load, energy demand and cost. Each calculator is a script in scripts/ that takes command-line arguments, validates them and prints readable output, or structured JSON when you add --json.5 persons per unit.
Architect Calculators fits situations like: estimating gross floor area, unit count and parking from a site area and FAR; working out the U-value of a wall or roof build-up layer by layer; checking exit width and travel distance for an occupant load; getting a quick construction cost or annual energy estimate during early design.
Run `npx skills add Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects --skill architect-calculator -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/architect-calculator in Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects) into .claude/skills/architect-calculator in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects --skill architect-calculator -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/architect-calculator in Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects) into .agents/skills/architect-calculator in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Abhinavbwj/Skills-Architects --skill architect-calculator -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/architect-calculator, .gemini/skills/architect-calculator, .github/skills/architect-calculator and .opencode/skills/architect-calculator in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Architect Calculators needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python). Our summary lists: Python to run the scripts.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Architect Calculators is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 3.4k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 14k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 2.8k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Architect Calculators: Astropy (zLanqing/codex-claude-academic-skills, 4.7k stars), Cantera Ignition Delay (K-Dense-AI/scientific-agent-skills, 48k stars), Climate Ds (Hongjian01/ClimWorkflow, 102 stars) and DP-GEN Simplify Workflow (jinzhezenggroup/computational-chemistry-agent-skills, 148 stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
