What it does

Writing Skills is an agent skill from 6BNBN/FlowPilot. Use when creating, editing, or validating Cursor custom skills, especially when deciding where they should live, how they should be named, and how to describe when they apply.

Its SKILL.md is about 320 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `render-graphs.js`).

It sits in Agent Workflows, covering Skill authoring. The repository describes itself as: 一句需求,自动拆任务、并行多代理写码、断点恢复、验证收尾。FlowPilot 让 Claude Code / Codex / Cursor / snow-cli 进入真正的自动开发流程。 The licence is MIT.

  • How they should be named
  • How to describe when they apply

Example prompts

Requirements

  • Node.js

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 57b1d49. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

Ships script files (JavaScript), which the agent can run.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Writing Skills loads about 322 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 48 tokens; SKILL.md has 132 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~48
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~322

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Writing Skills

Goal

Create skills that Cursor can discover and apply effectively.

Storage Locations

  • Personal skills: ~/.cursor/skills/
  • Project skills: .cursor/skills/

Do not create custom skills in ~/.cursor/skills-cursor/; that directory is reserved for Cursor's built-in skills.

Good Skill Structure

Each skill should live in its own directory:

text
skill-name/
  SKILL.md
  optional-reference.md
  optional-examples.md

SKILL.md Requirements

  • YAML frontmatter with name and description
  • concise body with clear instructions
  • optional references for heavier material

Naming Rules

  • lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens
  • short, descriptive, and easy to trigger from user language

Description Rules

  • say what the skill is for and when to use it
  • include likely trigger words
  • avoid vague labels like "helper" or "workflow"

Authoring Advice

  • optimize for real usage, not theory
  • keep the main file concise
  • move heavier references into separate files
  • test the skill on realistic prompts after writing it
