At a glance

  • SKILL.md covers Core Action, Output Interpretation and Example Output Format
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Scienceworld Environment Scanner is an agent skill from zjunlp/SkillNet. This skill performs an initial observation of the current location to identify available objects, containers, and connections to other rooms. Use this when starting a new task in ScienceWorld to gather situational awareness, especially when the agent needs to understand its surroundings before taking action. It outputs a detailed room description, listing visible items and accessible doors.

Its SKILL.md is about 330 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/action_primer.md`).

The repository describes itself as: Create, Evaluate, and Connect AI Skills. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/scienceworld-environment-scanner”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3fcebf8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Scienceworld Environment Scanner loads about 333 tokens when it runs, and up to ~622 if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 107 tokens; SKILL.md has 127 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~107
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~333
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~622

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Instructions

Execute this skill when you first arrive at a location in ScienceWorld or when you need to refresh your understanding of the current environment.

Core Action

  1. Always begin by using the look around action. This is the primary and mandatory step of this skill. It provides the foundational observation of the room.

Output Interpretation

After executing look around, analyze the observation. Your analysis must structure the output clearly:

  • Current Room: State the name of the room you are in.
  • Visible Objects & Substances: List all items and substances reported in the observation.
  • Accessible Doors: List all doors mentioned, noting their destination and whether they are open or closed.
  • Initial Assessment: Briefly note any items of immediate interest or relevance to your known task.
