codd-validateValidate CoDD frontmatter and dependency references before scan, impact, generation, or propagation work continues.
Codd Validate is an agent skill from yohey-w/codd-dev. Validate CoDD frontmatter and dependency references before scan, impact, generation, or propagation work continues. Use when the user needs to confirm YAML frontmatter, required metadata, dependency references, and graph inputs are parseable and internally consistent.
Its SKILL.md is about 960 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development. The repository describes itself as: CoDD: Coherence-Driven Development — Claude Code plugin for cross-artifact change impact analysis. The licence is MIT.
8 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 41b5f87. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Codd Validate loads about 957 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 71 tokens; SKILL.md has 472 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/codd-validate/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Validate CoDD frontmatter and dependency references before impact analysis so broken metadata does not poison the graph or downstream change-propagation work.
Run this skill after codd scan --path ., after editing requirement or design documents, or any time you suspect frontmatter or dependency references may be inconsistent.
Preflight:
codd/codd.yaml exists. If not, run codd init first.codd command is not available, install the package so the CLI entry point is on PATH before continuing.Run validation:
codd validate --path .Interpret the result:
OK: validated ... output as a pass. Frontmatter is structurally valid enough to proceed, and dependency references are consistent enough for the next step. After a clean pass, codd impact is safe to run.ERROR triage by category:
missing_field: Required frontmatter data is missing or malformed. Open the affected design document and add or repair the needed fields, especially node_id, title, and depends_on when the design requires declared upstream dependencies. In current validator output, this often appears as missing or invalid frontmatter rather than a literal missing_field code.invalid_reference: A document references a node_id that does not exist or is misspelled. Correct the typo or point the reference at the real upstream node. In current validator output, this usually shows up as undefined-reference messages such as dangling depends_on or depended_by.circular_dependency: Two or more documents depend on each other in a loop. Revisit depends_on, remove the back-edge, and restore a one-way dependency order.Fix broken frontmatter step by step:
---.node_id, title, and depends_on where applicable.codd validate --path . and confirm the error is gone.Recommended scan -> validate flow:
codd scan --path .
codd validate --path .
# fix reported errors
codd validate --path .Troubleshooting:
Error: codd/ not found. Run 'codd init' first.: Initialize the project before validating.command not found: codd: Install the package or activate the environment that exposes the codd console script.invalid_frontmatter: Fix YAML syntax first. Common causes are missing : separators, bad indentation, or an unclosed list entry.missing_frontmatter or missing_field: Add the missing CoDD frontmatter block and required fields, then validate again.dangling_depends_on or dangling_depended_by: Treat these as invalid_reference problems and repair the referenced node_id.circular_dependency errors: Draw the dependency chain on paper, decide which document is the real upstream source of truth, and remove the reverse dependency.Exit condition:
codd impact until validation is clean or the remaining warnings are explicitly understood and accepted.© yohey-w, MIT. Rendered from Markdown: HTML in the file is shown as text, images as links, and headings moved down two levels. Raw file

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Codd Validate is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Codd Validate is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 957 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
