What it does

Simplify is an agent skill from yielded-dev/agent. Simplify code or workflows, including explicitly requested pre-production removal of legacy compatibility.

Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/no-legacy.md`).

It sits in Development, covering Code simplification. The repository describes itself as: Yielded Agent: an agent harness toolkit for TypeScript, built on Effect and Effect AI. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

Example prompts

  • “/simplify”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ba5813e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Simplify loads about 486 tokens when it runs, and up to ~785 if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 29 tokens; SKILL.md has 254 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~29
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~486
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~785

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Simplify

Start from the requested outcome and what it actually requires. Before calling work done, review the existing or newly built solution: what is unnecessary, overly complicated, or based on weak assumptions? Challenge those assumptions.

Prefer deleting over simplifying, simplifying over optimizing, and optimizing over automating. First look for dependencies, alternate paths, or handoffs that can be removed entirely. Then reassess what remains: what becomes simpler once those pieces are gone?

Make justified changes within scope; do not stop at recommendations. If the solution already serves the outcome well and no worthwhile simplification is supported, leave it alone and say so. A review need not produce a diff.

Distinguish inherited assumptions from user requirements and external contracts. Check callers, stored data, and operational dependencies before removing behavior. If a proposed deletion would change the assignment, make that choice explicit.

Keep changes within the affected workflow. Use a reversible candidate diff and relevant checks when dependencies are uncertain. Preserve necessary validation, compatibility, and usable pending or error states. Fewer changed lines is not the success criterion; less unnecessary machinery with required behavior intact is.

Optimize or automate only when the task calls for it. Do not turn an ordinary fix into a broader simplification pass. Report the removed mechanism and any constraint that required it to remain, when that explanation helps review the change.

Optional mode

Only when the user explicitly requests pre-production removal of legacy or compatibility paths, read the no-legacy pass. Ordinary simplification does not establish a greenfield premise or authorize that pass.

When should I use Simplify?

Simplify fits situations like: tasks that involve Code simplification.

How do I install Simplify in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add yielded-dev/agent --skill simplify -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/simplify in yielded-dev/agent) into .claude/skills/simplify in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Simplify in Codex?

Run `npx skills add yielded-dev/agent --skill simplify -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/simplify in yielded-dev/agent) into .agents/skills/simplify in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Simplify in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add yielded-dev/agent --skill simplify -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/simplify, .gemini/skills/simplify, .github/skills/simplify and .opencode/skills/simplify in your project.

What does Simplify need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Simplify is instructions for the agent only.

Does Simplify access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Simplify safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Simplify use?

Simplify is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Simplify use?

About 486 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 299 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.

What are the alternatives to Simplify?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Simplify: Ponytail (DavidObando/gsharp, 565 stars), Ponytail Review (kortix-ai/suna, 20k stars), Ponytail Lazy Developer Mode (DietrichGebert/ponytail, 158k stars) and Code Simplification for ego-lite (citrolabs/ego-lite, 17k stars).
