modify-settingsFinds and changes Warp application settings by searching a bundled JSON schema and editing the matching TOML settings file at the right nesting depth.
The skill relies on a bundled JSON schema, written to JSON Schema draft 2020-12, that lists every Warp setting with its description, type, default and allowed values. The agent first greps the schema for candidate key names, then runs scripts/find_setting.py with the schema and the key to get the full dotted path and definition, because several sections share similar names and nesting must never be guessed from grep output.
Settings themselves live in a TOML file whose section headers mirror the schema hierarchy, so a property two levels under appearance becomes a table named appearance.themes. The agent counts the full depth before writing a header, reads the current value to see whether the setting is already configured, creates the file if it does not exist, and relies on Warp hot-reloading it so changes apply immediately.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit f571865. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
python3From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Warp Settings Editor loads about 675 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 25 tokens; SKILL.md has 327 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

A JSON schema describing all available settings is bundled at:
{{settings_schema_path}}The schema follows JSON Schema draft 2020-12, with settings organized hierarchically under properties. Each setting includes:
description — what the setting controlstype — the value type (string, boolean, integer, etc.)default — the default valueenum or oneOf — valid values, when the setting is constrainedUse grep to do an initial broad search for candidate key names:
grep -i "font" {{settings_schema_path}}Once you have a candidate key name, run the bundled script to get the full dotted path, the setting's properties, and any parent context. This is critical — the schema has multiple sections with similar names (e.g. several input keys), so never assume the nesting from grep output alone.
python3 {{skill_dir}}/scripts/find_setting.py {{settings_schema_path}} <key_name>The output gives you the unambiguous full path (e.g. properties.appearance.properties.input.properties.input_mode) and the setting's full definition including valid values.
The user's settings are stored in a TOML file at:
{{settings_file_path}}Settings use dotted TOML section headers matching the schema hierarchy. Always trace the full nesting path from the schema to the TOML — each intermediate properties key becomes a section level. For example:
A property at properties.appearance.properties.font_size (one level deep) corresponds to:
[appearance]
font_size = 14A property at properties.appearance.properties.themes.properties.theme (two levels deep) corresponds to:
[appearance.themes]
theme = "light"A common mistake is to stop one level too early — always count the full depth before writing the TOML section header.
If the file does not exist yet, create it. Warp hot-reloads this file, so changes take effect immediately.
grep to identify candidate key names, then run the Python path-tracing script to get the full dotted path and the setting's valid values. Never rely on grep output alone to infer nesting.© warpdotdev, AGPL-3.0. Rendered from Markdown: HTML in the file is shown as text, images as links, and headings moved down two levels. Raw file

Warp Settings Editor fits situations like: changing a Warp setting such as font size or theme; checking the current value or valid options for a Warp setting; troubleshooting a Warp setting that does not seem to apply.
Run `npx skills add warpdotdev/warp --skill modify-settings -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (resources/bundled/skills/modify-settings in warpdotdev/warp) into .claude/skills/modify-settings in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add warpdotdev/warp --skill modify-settings -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/modify-settings, .gemini/skills/modify-settings, .github/skills/modify-settings and .opencode/skills/modify-settings in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Warp Settings Editor needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (python3). Our summary lists: Warp with its bundled settings schema; Python 3, for find_setting.py.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Warp Settings Editor is published under the AGPL-3.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 675 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
