test-volo-flowTests the create-volo-app CLI end-to-end against a local volo-app template.
Test Volo Flow is an agent skill from VoloBuilds/create-volo-app. Tests the create-volo-app CLI end-to-end against a local volo-app template. Use when validating CLI or template changes, running scaffold smoke tests, checking validateTemplate requirements, or verifying volo-config.json flows.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Testing & QA, covering QA and bug reports. The licence is MIT.
4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ce4ec34. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
pnpmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use pnpm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Test Volo Flow loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 434 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from VoloBuilds/create-volo-app at commit ce4ec34, republished under its MIT licence (© VoloBuilds). 434 words, ~1,084 tokens.

Prerequisites: Open the create-volo-app repository as the workspace (or ensure the shell cwd is its root).
Use required_permissions: ["all"].
Run every command from the create-volo-app repository root. Do not prefix commands with cd … && — that triggers extra approval and is unnecessary. Set the shell tool's working_directory to the repo root instead.
| Path | Purpose |
|---|---|
.tmp/volo-flow-test | Scaffolded test project |
.tmp/volo-flow-test.state.json | Run metadata (includes dev pid and frontend URL after dev) |
.tmp/volo-flow-test.dev.log | Captured stdout/stderr from test:volo-flow:dev (for debugging API/service failures) |
Template default: ../volo-app (override with VOLO_APP_TEMPLATE).
pnpm test:volo-flowSteps (each prints OK or FAILED):
--force)On failure: prints a summary, leaves .tmp/volo-flow-test in place for inspection.
Replace an existing test dir:
pnpm test:volo-flow -- --forcepnpm test:volo-flow:devStarts the scaffolded app in the background with VOLO_DEV_IGNORE_STDIN=1, waits for VOLO_DEV_FRONTEND_URL=… and VOLO_DEV_BACKEND_URL=… from scripts/run-dev.js, verifies backend GET / health, captures all service output to .tmp/volo-flow-test.dev.log, writes URLs and dev pid to state, then exits while services keep running.
On failure (timeout, process exit, or backend health check), prints a filtered excerpt from the dev log before exiting non-zero.
pnpm test:volo-flow:stop
pnpm test:volo-flow:cleanupstop sends SIGINT to the pid recorded in state and waits for shutdown. cleanup stops the dev server if needed, then deletes only .tmp/volo-flow-test and .tmp/volo-flow-test.state.json.
These files must exist in the template. Do not remove or rename them without updating src/utils/template.ts:

pnpm test:volo-flow:dev parses stdout from the scaffolded app’s pnpm run dev → volo-app scripts/run-dev.js.
Required machine-readable lines (do not rename without updating scripts/test-volo-flow.mjs):
VOLO_DEV_FRONTEND_URL=http://localhost:5501
VOLO_DEV_BACKEND_URL=http://localhost:5500After both URLs appear, the runner polls GET {backendUrl}/ until { "status": "ok" } or times out (30s).
All dev stdout/stderr during startup is appended to .tmp/volo-flow-test.dev.log. On startup/health failure, the runner prints a filtered excerpt (lines tagged [server], [database], errors, etc.) plus the full log path. After dev-ready, the runner exits (dev server keeps running in the background); the log file retains startup output only.
Legacy fallbacks: human Frontend: / Backend: lines for older templates.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Test Volo Flow needs the command-line tools its instructions call (pnpm).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Test Volo Flow is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
