rebaseRebases the current feature branch onto the latest main, master or develop, stashing uncommitted work first and aborting cleanly if conflicts appear.
The skill runs a fixed three-step routine. It first checks preconditions: it stops if you are already on main, master or develop or in a detached HEAD state, finds the base branch with the bundled detect-base-branch.sh script, and, when the working tree is dirty, asks whether to stash and rebase or cancel. It then fetches the base branch from origin and compares the merge base with the remote tip, stopping if the branch is already current.
The third step runs git rebase against the origin branch and reports how many commits your branch is ahead. On a conflict it aborts the rebase, restores any stashed changes and tells you to resolve it manually. Gotchas warn that rebasing a pushed branch rewrites history and needs a force-push with lease, and that git stash pop can itself conflict. Allowed tools are limited to the script and git fetch, rebase and stash commands.
3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 19e0695. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

Git Rebase onto Base Branch loads about 786 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 21 tokens; SKILL.md has 359 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

cursor/plugins
Digs into why code is shaped the way it is by checking git history, pull requests and connected tools in parallel, then reporting a cited read on the tradeoffs.
HKUDS/OpenHarness
Merges external GitHub pull requests while keeping the original author credited, and fixes conflicts after the merge instead of rewriting the contribution.
TryGhost/Ghost
Moves a package from another TryGhost repository into Ghost as an internal workspace package while keeping its Git history, with checkpoints for the steps that need an administrator.
cline/cline
Opens a GitHub pull request from your current branch with the gh CLI, after reviewing the commits and diff and gathering the details the PR needs.
tailcallhq/forgecode
Resolves Git merge conflicts with a plan-first workflow that keeps both sides' intent, regenerates lock files and backs up deleted-but-modified files.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Runs parallel review agents over a branch, chosen paths or a whole project and merges their findings into one numbered report you can act on by id.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Clarifies what to build before how, by asking one question at a time about a feature idea and then handing the result on to planning.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Stages, commits, pushes and opens a pull request with a Conventional Commits message, after running the project's checks unless told to skip them.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Produces a blameless post-incident debrief with timeline, root cause and follow-up actions after an outage, failed release or significant bug, while details are fresh.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Applies a minimal fix to an emergency bug through triage, root-cause location, a hotfix branch and a blast-radius check, with tests and review still required.
VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan
Turns high-level brainstorming and ideas into well-structured, actionable implementation plans.

Git Rebase onto Base Branch fits situations like: bringing a feature branch up to date with main before opening a pull request; preventing merge conflicts from piling up on a long-running branch; rebasing safely when you have uncommitted changes in the working tree; finding out whether a branch is already current with its base.
Run `npx skills add VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan --skill rebase -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/rebase in VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan) into .claude/skills/rebase in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add VeryGoodOpenSource/vgv-wingspan --skill rebase -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/rebase, .gemini/skills/rebase, .github/skills/rebase and .opencode/skills/rebase in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Git Rebase onto Base Branch needs a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (git). Our summary lists: A Git repository with an origin remote. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash(*/scripts/detect-base-branch.sh), Bash(git fetch *), Bash(git rebase *), Bash(git stash *). Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code (or similar products with git access).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
Git Rebase onto Base Branch is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 786 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.1k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
