vellum-migration-checklistValidate Vellum Assistant database and workspace migrations.
Vellum Migration Checklist is an agent skill from vellum-ai/vellum-assistant. Validate Vellum Assistant database and workspace migrations. Use when adding, editing, reviewing, or testing migrations, release-note migrations, persisted schemas, workspace file formats, or data backfills.
Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Development, covering Changelog and release notes. The repository describes itself as: An AI Assistant that’s easy to setup, does your work 24/7, knows your preferences and gets better over time. The licence is MIT.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 33cc983. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
bunbunxFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use bunx, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Vellum Migration Checklist loads about 596 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 59 tokens; SKILL.md has 246 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from vellum-ai/vellum-assistant at commit 33cc983, republished under its MIT licence (© vellum-ai). 246 words, ~596 tokens.
.claude/skills/vellum-migration-checklist/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Use a migration for shipped interfaces and persisted data:
Do not delete migration files. Migrations are append-only, even when their logic becomes obsolete.
For DB migrations:
assistant/src/persistence/migrations/.migrationSteps array in assistant/src/persistence/steps.ts.db-*migration*.test.ts test.Check for ordering drift and never reorder existing migrations.
For workspace migrations:
assistant/src/workspace/migrations/.WORKSPACE_MIGRATIONS in assistant/src/workspace/migrations/registry.ts.workspace-migration-*.test.ts test.Never reuse or reorder existing migration IDs.
There is currently no release-note surfacing mechanism. The update-bulletin feature (workspace migrations appending to a workspace bulletin file, processed by a background conversation at daemon startup) was removed. Do not add new 0XX-release-notes-* workspace migrations — the historical set is frozen by workspace-release-notes-feature-flag-guard.test.ts. If a release needs user-facing notes, design an explicit on-demand surfacing mechanism first.
Run the focused migration test first. Add package typecheck when migration exports, schema types, or registry wiring changed:
cd assistant && bun test src/__tests__/workspace-migration-example.test.ts
cd assistant && bun test src/__tests__/db-example-migrations.test.ts
cd assistant && bunx tsc --noEmitReplace example paths with the actual test files related to the change.
