  • An implementation step is drifting past the stated deliverable and acceptance criteria

What it does

Scope Discipline is an agent skill from tola-rs/tola-ssg. Keep a change inside its requested scope. Use when a plan is accreting robustness, concurrency, security, extensibility, cleanup, or infrastructure work nobody asked for, or when an implementation step is drifting past the stated deliverable and acceptance criteria, or when another agent is working the same tree and a step reaches for its files.

Its SKILL.md is about 480 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Product & Project Management, covering User stories. The repository describes itself as: SSG for typst-based websites - keep your focus on the content. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • A plan is accreting robustness
  • Infrastructure work nobody asked for
  • An implementation step is drifting past the stated deliverable and acceptance criteria
  • Another agent is working the same tree and a step reaches for its files

Example prompts

  • “/scope-discipline”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit fbb0506. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Scope Discipline loads about 478 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 91 tokens; SKILL.md has 203 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~91
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~478

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Scope Discipline

Smallest correct change satisfying user's explicit deliverable + acceptance criteria.

Inspect broadly, modify narrowly.

No invented requirements. Possible risk ≠ authorization to fix it.

Optional robustness, concurrency, security, extensibility, cleanup: never prerequisites.

Every implementation step MUST map to an explicit acceptance criterion; delete plan steps that don't.

New subsystems, dependencies, protocols, persistent state, locks, leases, IPC, configuration surfaces, generalized abstractions: explicit approval required.

Prefer existing framework mechanisms + project patterns.

Accepted plan viable → execute. No recursive prerequisites unless new concrete evidence shows plan cannot satisfy an explicit requirement.

Real but non-blocking issue → Follow-ups, do not implement.

Beside other agents

Work split across agents: your slice is the boundary.

  • Work your slice only. Never edit a file another agent owns, pick up their work, or reach into their area; expansion requires user authorization; default — stay in your lane — needs no question.
  • One owner per file, shared manifests + lockfiles included.
  • Re-read a file immediately before editing it; smallest edit that lands; never rewrite a whole file for a small change.
  • Collision ⇒ boundary was fuzzy. Compare both intents, decide from code which content is correct — not which agent — keep that, continue; no halt for permission; no wholesale revert of the other side.

All acceptance criteria pass → STOP.
