What it does

Book Analyzer is an agent skill from ThomasHoussin/Claude-Book. Analyze source books to extract structured bible files (style, characters, structure, universe). Use when analyzing novels, stories, or any narrative text to create a reusable writing bible for style matching and story generation.

Its SKILL.md is about 620 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/extraction-guide.md`).

It sits in Writing & Content, covering Creative writing and fiction. The repository describes itself as: A Multi-Agent Framework for Writing Novels with Claude Code. The licence is MIT.

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Read source completely
  2. Extract style
  3. Extract characters
  4. Extract structure
  5. Extract universe
  6. Generate files

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3fdebbb. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Book Analyzer loads about 620 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 61 tokens; SKILL.md has 218 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~61
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~620
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.6k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Analyze source books to extract structured bible files (style, characters, structure, universe). Use when analyzing novels, stories, or any narrative text to create a reusable writing bible for style matching and story generation.

Book Analyzer

Extract structured bible files from source books for the writing framework.

Quick Start

bash
# Analyze a single book
Analyze analysis/src/[book].txt

Output structure in analysis/output/[book-slug]/:

├── style.md
├── structure.md
├── characters/
│ └── [character].md
└── universe/
    └── [location].md

Workflow

1. Read source completely

Load the full text, note overall structure and length.

2. Extract style
  • Identify POV (first/third limited/omniscient)
  • Identify tenses (primary, secondary)
  • Sample 50 sentences for average length
  • List 20-30 characteristic vocabulary items
  • List dialogue tags used
  • Estimate dialogue-to-prose ratio
  • Note description techniques
3. Extract characters

For each significant character:

  • Identity (name, age, role)
  • Physical description
  • 3-5 core personality traits with evidence
  • 5-10 dialogue quotes showing voice
  • Relationships mapped
4. Extract structure
  • Map acts (setup/development/climax/resolution)
  • Note chapter count and length range
  • Analyze chapter openings and endings
  • Identify recurring patterns
  • Track mystery mechanics if applicable
5. Extract universe

For each significant location:

  • Physical description with quotes
  • Atmosphere and sensory details
  • Story function
6. Generate files

Create all output files following templates in bible/.

Evidence-Based Extraction

Every trait, pattern, or rule must be supported by:

  • Direct quotes (with chapter reference)
  • Quantitative data (averages, counts, percentages)

Bad: "Claude is stubborn" Good: "Claude is stubborn (Ch.2: refuses to answer to 'Claudine'; Ch.5: insists on leading despite danger)"

Output Format

Follow templates exactly:

  • bible/style.md → output/[book]/style.md
  • bible/characters/_template.md → output/[book]/characters/[name].md
  • bible/universe/_template.md → output/[book]/universe/[name].md
  • bible/structure.md → output/[book]/structure.md

For detailed extraction checklists, see references/extraction-guide.md.

Output Language

French (for extracted content and quotes) English (for metadata and structural annotations)
