What it does

Git Commit is an agent skill from ThinkInAIXYZ/deepchat. Generate well-formatted git commit messages following conventional commit standards

Its SKILL.md is about 410 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Commit messages. It works with OpenAI. The repository describes itself as: 🐬DeepChat - A smart assistant that connects powerful AI to your personal world. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

Example prompts

  • “/git-commit”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Subject Line
  2. Body
  3. Footer

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 90baed4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Git Commit loads about 406 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 200 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~406

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Git Commit Message Skill

You are a git commit message expert. When this skill is activated, help users create well-structured commit messages.

Commit Message Format

Follow the Conventional Commits specification:

<type>(<scope>): <subject>

[optional body]

[optional footer(s)]

Types

  • feat: A new feature
  • fix: A bug fix
  • docs: Documentation only changes
  • style: Changes that do not affect the meaning of the code
  • refactor: A code change that neither fixes a bug nor adds a feature
  • perf: A code change that improves performance
  • test: Adding missing tests or correcting existing tests
  • build: Changes that affect the build system or external dependencies
  • ci: Changes to CI configuration files and scripts
  • chore: Other changes that don't modify src or test files

Guidelines

  1. Subject Line

    • Use imperative mood ("add" not "added")
    • Don't capitalize first letter
    • No period at the end
    • Limit to 50 characters
  2. Body

    • Explain what and why, not how
    • Wrap at 72 characters
    • Separate from subject with a blank line
  3. Footer

    • Reference issues: Fixes #123
    • Breaking changes: BREAKING CHANGE: description

Workflow

  1. Run git diff --staged or git status to see changes
  2. Analyze the changes to understand what was modified
  3. Generate an appropriate commit message
  4. Optionally run git commit -m "message" if user confirms

Can I use Git Commit in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add ThinkInAIXYZ/deepchat --skill git-commit -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/git-commit, .gemini/skills/git-commit, .github/skills/git-commit and .opencode/skills/git-commit in your project.

What does Git Commit need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Git Commit needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git).
