At a glance

A skill your agent uses when auditing slow page loads, heavy assets, or rendering delays related to Reduce DOM size and complexity.

  • SKILL.md covers Quick Reference, Check, Fix and Explain, plus 1 more section
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Rendering delays related to Reduce DOM size and complexity

What it does

Dom Size is an agent skill from thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist. Use when auditing slow page loads, heavy assets, or rendering delays related to Reduce DOM size and complexity. Verify the actual bottleneck in DevTools, Lighthouse, or field data before recommending changes.

Its SKILL.md is about 390 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/rule.md`).

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering Web performance. The repository describes itself as: 🗂 The essential checklist for modern web development, for humans and AI agents. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/dom-size”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e8d14d0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • frontendchecklist.io

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Dom Size loads about 390 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 54 tokens; SKILL.md has 151 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~54
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~390
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.6k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Reduce DOM size and complexity

An excessive DOM size increases memory usage, slows down style calculations, and makes layout reflows more expensive, leading to poor interaction performance.

Quick Reference

  • Keep total DOM nodes below 1,500
  • Avoid deep nesting (maximum depth < 32)
  • Use virtualization for long lists of elements

Check

Check the total number of DOM nodes and the maximum DOM depth using Lighthouse or Chrome DevTools.

Fix

Simplify the HTML structure, remove unnecessary wrapper elements, and implement virtualization for large lists.

Explain

Explain the performance impact of a large DOM tree on memory and rendering speed.

Code Review

Review the routes, assets, and loading behavior that affect Reduce DOM size and complexity. Flag exact files, requests, or rendering steps that add unnecessary network, CPU, or layout cost, and describe the measurement method used to confirm the issue.
